The Calm (2 minutes) Before The Storm.




100 Km/h winds, 14 foot alloy runabout, 2 Km out.

Jetty was underwater and getting smashed by waves, had to bring it in on the beach.

Sheets of water lifting off the surface of the ocean as the wind kicked in.

Never seen anything like it before.

Nice shot!! Look at the colour of the water - is it normally that green looking without the overcast conditions?? Never want to be on the water in those circumstances as such, but great photo of the contrast between the sky and the water ... love it!!

the ocean was usual colour, conditions were calm except for 2-3m swell.

Saw rain in the distant NE, 5 min later, the rain clouds appeared red and purple and rapidly building. we were about 3km north of harbour and about 2km out from shoreline. Heading back to the harbour, the ocean flattened out, turned aqua. The photo was taken about 500m north of the second last marker from geraldton harbour. Within minutes it turned into a situation where my gf was crying. I said it be all ok. But I really didnt know.

No visibilty and waves kicking up and over boat, the boat was out of control. spinning in circles, very difficult to steer. whipping spray into face and eyes.
waves filling boat with water. couldn't apply any acceleration. took an eternity to make the usual journey to the harbour.

we had some good luck, really did not think we would make it.
