It happens in 3s (so its said)

With the problem I have been having with my vehicle I thought things couldn’t get much worse.
    Wrong:

While back in Sydney I decided to do some work on our caravan. I wanted to raise the van to give it a bit more ground clearance, without under slinging the axle. Decided to replace the springs and have a straight axle made. (the van was fitted with an overlay axle).
On Friday get it all back together and go to fit the new wheel bearings and, one side doesn’t fit, the axle shaft on one side has not been machined to correct size. Measured the shaft and it is 4 thousands of an inch too large (metric 0.10mm). Contacted the company that I ordered it from and then had to remove it all and take it back to them. They confirmed the axle was made wrong and has to be sent back to the manufacturer, in another state. The company I have been dealing with has been extremely helpful and obliging.
So will have to wait about a week before I get the axle back.

Then to top it off, yesterday my wife says to me, “ what are we doing on the 19th (of this month), I looked at her and asked why. “It’s our wedding anniversary” she says.

Now, guys & gals, this is the truth, my wife has never remembered the date of our wedding anniversary, (not once in over 30 years) Most years I buy a card, write on it and throw it in a draw. Sometime later, which could be from 2 weeks to 3 months or more, she will mention it, saying something like, when was our anniversary.
When this happens, I go get my card out of the draw, wipe the dust off it, and make some remark like, “happy anniversary hun, so where’s my card ?”, and spend the day hassling her about forgetting it.

So now I have a smoky Patrol. A caravan with no axle and a wife that’s remembered our wedding anniversary.
Surely it has to get better.

Maybe she's got you a kick-arse card mate

Good luck with the mechanic this week mate, hopefully a fast diagnosis and an easy fix!

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Well ova, it can only start improving now. Good luck with the mechanic, caravan and the anniversary (not necessarily in the order).

    Hi Ova,
I feel for you, I'm in the same age bracket as you and can relate to the anniversary thing.

As for the caravan axle, how could any competent tradesman make this and get both ends different?
Hopefully all three issues sort themselves rather painlessly and you're on the road again sooner than later.

If you are up this way some time, let us know and maybe we could arrange a meet up.
Always good to meet another Forum member and swap stories etc.

    Cheers Gavin

    Thanks guys,

Quote: Lonicus, Maybe she's got you a kick-arse card mate.

That bothers me, About 20 years back I had an industrial accident, had fractured all but one of my ribs on the left side, Drs were uncertain about the remaining rib.
So the wife comes to visit me in hospital that arvo and brings me a card. I open it, and on the front it has "Get Well, Get Well", when I opened the card, it said, "Get Well and Truely".
I started laughing and that made the pain worse, then there is this slight cracking sound, yep the last rib that the Drs were sus about, let go.

Gutsyute: The axle , I was told that the axle is machined by computer, surely there must be a breathing organism that works the computer, ( Im a pretty gullible person, so sure, I'll believe that)
For the life of me I still cant fathom why she remembered the date, never has this happened.

Can only get better, (I hope, please tell me it will, lol)
