Thanks Mego. I'm looking at boats at the moment, smooth water type around the 4 metre mark. One I have my eye on is the Anglapro Outlaw 424, packaged with a 30hp 2-stroke. I realise the 30 is right at the low end of the scale for the boat but a step up to a 40hp 4 stroke doubles the price of the donk!

I think there a different plates/foils for different purposes these days TD but all probably originated from the basic cavitation plate principle. I had them on my last 2 boats so I could be on the plane at lower speeds for trolling.

As much as I like the very low fuel consumption used by the smaller motor, it would be so much better with the bigger motor.
Even when there are two of us on board (and my mate us my size) and the kill tank is full of squid up front, I struggle to get on plane unless it dead flat. Any slop and I just can't get up.

Yeah, I'd really like at least a 40hp on the back, max for the boat is 50hp, but $$ is always the limiting factor. Will just have to wait and see how much I have to spend after the move and maybe see if I can twist the boss' arm a bit

@ Lonicus have you tried looking at 2nds in the boat Dept.
Great bargains just for a few dents in the hull, Worth a look.
Think My mate still works for a major boat mob if willing to come down
and tow it home

Yeah, the 30 2 stroke is a bit over 3k, putting another 4-5k on top of the package price starts making it a bit too pricey.

Have looked at the 2nd hand market TD and for what I want there's not a lot of difference between the new price and boats 5 or more years old unfortunately.
