Alternator Q for the smarter than me

Hi all I have a GU3 4.2 td the alternator has died , I rang a couple of places today and was told they cannot be reconditioned ? is this true , the numbers are LR1100-705E , I then got a replacement peak branded one ALT2699G It came with a different front pully , gave them a call and the said to change the pully over , my origional pully does not fit ,the shaft lengths are different so am taking it back to them tomorrow , I would prefer to get the origional rebuilt if possible can this be done.

    Cheers
    Gaddy

How much did they sting you for the new one?

Give Parol-a-part in Lilydale a call tomorrow mate for a price. They will do a 70amp (standard) a 90amp and probably a120amp ( not sure about the GU)? Does your have the Vac pump on the back or is the vac pump remotely mounted?

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

$390 plus gst I had one price of $700 but will see what happens tomorrow as it is susposed to be a replacement for the origional ,also went to buy new belts as well to find out that the while the alt belt is one size for the GU3 there are 2 different sizes listed for the air and power steer for the same model , pays to take the old ones with you if buying new belts , I wonder how many people have brought a set to carry as spares that wont fit when the time comes

Good idea to replace your belts and put the old belts and hoses into your rear quarter panels. They will be there until you need them where ever you may be

Give Patrolapart a call mate and you should get a good price. Note also the potential for an output upgrade.

    Cheers MR

If you have your old alternator off the vehicle, pull it apart and check the brushes.

If one of the brushes isn't making contact with the slip ring it will be tarnished/burnt.

Normally it's not viable to repair them if it's move then brushes.
