    Thermostat is there or not

Hi Guys, had the GU ti patrol for year and abit now, all that time temp was just below half way mark. as I flushing out the radiator, I put the hose into the top hose which houses the thermostat, but water kept coming out of the bottom hose, which is saying to me there's no thermostat. ? do I put one in or leave it as there must been a reason why the last owner didn't put in or the thermostat is stuck open , what do think !!! regards Alex p.s. Air-con does shut off on really hot days in traffic stop and start

The thermostat should be on top so you wouldn't be able to stick a hose down there. I would say someone has taken it out if your able to put the hose down there.

Get one in there though. Your engine won't be able to warm up properly without one and would eventually cause damage down the path mate.

EDIT: Didn't read your post properly...if you took the housing off then you could stick hose down the actual pipe...Is there a thermostat sitting where you took the housing off, not on the hose the other side where you unbolted the housing?

Aircon can cut out on very hot days if it is over gassed. Get some gauges onto it and you will be able to tell. And yes - your engine was designed to have a thermostat. As AB said, you won't be doing the engine any favours by leaving it out.

If someone has removed the thermostat.

I would be removing the radiator and sending it out to a radiator shop to get it checked and properly flushed.

Then fit a new genuine thermostat.

Is it a zd30? If so, the thermostat is accessed through the passenger side wheel arch. A pig to get too.

the thermostat is off the bottom hose NOT the top in the 3L models, it is a bytch to get to, you cant get at it from underneath, the manual will tell you to remove the air box piping & second battery (if fitted) but to go in that way you will need to remove the alternator as well just to see what your doing, as suggested by NICKPEACOCK the passenger wheel arch may well get you there, either way a hard job, only fit an original Nissan thermostat & yes a diesel has to have one regardless, a diesel motor has to have proper operating temperature to work efficiently, you are having the same issues as me but I replaced my radiator only to find that when I pulled it out it was appx 60% blocked with mud which I have since managed to clean it out, I am also suspicious of my thermostat as I also was able to get water to run out of the bottom hose but only about 50%, I am thinking it is stuck open aswell, I have another thermostat ready to fit but mine only over heated under load, ie: 4wding in hot weather or towing uphills, I am yet to hitch my camper up & test it on some hills now, I was suppose to do it yesterday but it was to hot & I just couldnt be bothered

Hi Guys, did the Thermostat yesterday and must say it was the east job to do , no more than 5 mins on the 4.5 litre motor , as stated be4 , there was one there in the first place ,but was on stuck on, hess the water going throw the top hose to bottom hose
, the "non genuine thermostat" was taken out and a $44 dollar /4 day to come from Nissan warehouse :-) genuine thermostat was fitted , all good regards Alex B

? when putting hose housing to block , do you need to have silcone on base as when I pull apart there was none, and as thermostat has a rubber seal I didn't think it needed any .... thank Alex
