    supercharging my rb30

ive been thinking about turboing my rb30 GQ
but after speeking with a coworker am now seriously considering putting a small supercharger on it instead, for the low down torque without revs

can anyone shedsome light on the subject for me plz

I have seen that castlemain rod shop did a kit that uses the SC14 toyota side mount charger.
You will need the kit and clutch upgrade to get any sort of worthwhile power increase.
Long story short nothing you do to a RB30 will make it any good in the bush down low..

There was a bloke up here in QLD who had a VL wagon with a supercharged RB30 in it. He used a toyota sc14 Im pretty sure which was used on the 4AGZe engine line running 8-10psi. The toyota supercharger remote mounts so it would only involve mounting it up and sussing your belt options out and away you go. An aftermarket ECU would make your life a lot easier to on the tuning side of it.

i know it will still need revving, it'll never have the compression of a diesel, but the power increase of forced induction should at least bring the engine displacement up to the 3.0L which you dont get from naturally aspirated engines.

guess after the other projects are done i'll have another think

Not sure lol. I was just using it as an example that it can be done and the results will be worth it.

X2 about down low business for rb30 and the clutch.
but that is compared to 4.2 lts bottom end.
that said low gears and revs would be your friend.

Maybe consider efi rb30 turbo set up, cheap to do.
and then maybe consider the blower afterwards.
see how you like the turbo power first.
you would have to do 95% of upgrades for this anyway.
    and VL RB's are cheap.
what's the expression, suck it and see.
but remember careful planning is key.
ie aftermarket computer for adjustable tuning for instance

While i like the idea of a Super charger, it would be so much effort to get it all working correctly, you would be much better off bolting a ready made EFI Turbo set up from a VL Turbo, and then "matching" the right Turbo/ECU for your type of application.

Turbos come in all sizes (front and rear housings included), so you can pretty much pick the rev range you want to start making boost, anyone that says you need big revs to get a Turbo on boost, has been watching too many Jamboree videos, remember, all the big trucks use turbos for low down torque, and they don't use big revs to do it.

Talk to a expert on Turbos and you won't have any guess work on what your Turbo engine will do and when, with the right combo, you can even start making boost just off idle if you wish.
