g'day people i am insured with AAMI payed $27,000 and i have spent about $10,000 all of my accessories are covered and i managed to get an agreed value of $50,000! i am very happy with this and it costs me $87.50 monthly which i think is fair. a few years ago i had a 1998 gu with a few bits and pieces (lift, 33s, lights etc) managed to get that insured agreed value of $20,000 and which i am sorry to say also had to claim for she was stolen. AAMI payed out within 2 weeks and i have been with them ever since, before that i was with ALIANCE and there was a car park bingle which was clearly not my fault but they turned around and called it a ("grey area") and were happy to fix my truck which was quoted at $960 if i payed the excess which was $1500 F@ck that! dropped them on the spot!
2008 GU 2" LIFT, GME UHF BLACK KING WHEELS, SAFARI SNORKEL, LIGHTFORCE 240' KAYMAR DUAL WHEEL CARRIER STEINBAUER POWER, beaudesert 2 3/4 system, runva 11,000 comp winch.....

So i have had a busy afternoon. quotes were for a gu 4.2 diesel wagon, 2004 (i'm 29 - perfect driving record). I made a few insurance calls today and this is what came out in the wash:

CGU and QBE would only offer agreed value of about $32,000 and QBE was a whopping $2529

Budget direct cost $1075 with agreed value around 35,000.

RACV which is NRMA cost $1653 with 35000 as agreed value.

AAMI was $1072 with agreed value of 36,660.

GIO were my favoured option costing $1131 but offered agreed value of 40,300.

All the quotes were online quotes with bulbar and a couple of other mods when the insurer asked. Annoyingly only GIO provided an agreed value over about 35000. While this is accurate for an unmodified patrol of that vintage with high kms I think a 2004 GU with low kms and a few mods is worth more.

Lastly I looked at TCIS but their online quote system was a PITA.

Hopefully this info will help some of you save some time when you're shopping around.

Now i just need to find a decent GU on the market long enough for me to snap it up.

So i finally had some luck with TCIS... well kind of.

The quote i was sent was completely wrong. they gave me a quote for a 3lt instead of a 4.2 and wrote the year in wrong. they also made me a rating 6 when all other companies gave me rating one.

When i called i felt like i was talking to some girl in her parents shed who didn't know what she was doing.

After a brief chat and another couple of emails i managed to get them to fix the quote. It was $1670 with agreed value of 38k and i became a rating 4 (still not good enough).
they didn't answer any of the questions i asked in subsequent emails.

Anyway the point is, if you are with TCIS maybe just give them a test call to see if the person that answers the phone would be able to help you after you are in a bit of trouble. They didnt exactly instil me with confidence. If they can't organise an insurance quote without 4 emails and 2 phone calls, i can't imagine how they would help me if i was back of Bourke and something had gone bottoms up.

    Safe Wheeling.

I know exactly how you felt talking to the girl in the shed, I got quotes for my recent update to a 99 4.2 diesel gu. Took 3 phone calls and 3 diferent girls. Each time I rang I got them to read what details the previous girl had written and it was always wrong. Still couldnt insure it for what I paid. It makes it hard to work out a real value for what patrols are worth??? Now I have the opposite problem trying to work out how much to sell the old 90 gq 4.2 diesel, DX 205K owned for 20 years .

    Hi All,
Have you tried Coles Insurance (underwritten by Westfarmers) For my GU agreed value $22,000.00 / $480.00. $30.00 cheaper than Shannons but went with Shannons as had a credit from previous vehicle. Coles for the Wifes' I30, Agreed value $18,000.00 $220 cheaper than youi including free roadside assist, monthly 3x current petrol docket off fuel. Worth a look.

I've got my 99 gu 2.8lt with a few mods, lift kit, winchbar dual dvd screens, leather interior, drawers etc. I'm insured with Just Car Insurance (underwritten by AAMI) and they advertise specializing in modifications and younger drivers. I'm 29 perfect record and managed to get agreed value of $18000 paid $16500 after a long phone conversation explaining the difference between a 3.0lt and anything else, ended up getting him to search carsales over the phone. He first came back and told me most were selling for around 10k, told him he was full of it and gave him the correct search parameters and finally agreed that there is a massive difference. Full comp I'm paying mid 600's an am quite happy but will check out TCIS when I'm next due.
