Hi Antiskeptic,
I got the crystal lenses from the same guy on ebay for my GQ. I did go down the HID road as well (the dark side )
For myself... Bloody awesome upgrade from sealed factory. OMG i can see !
For others on the road... not so good....
Would recommend just the lenses and std globes for sure....

Just joined the GU club... Happy days !

I actually sell and fit H4 7inch projector lights. These are by far the best lighting upgrade you can do.
This is a 2.5 inch projector fitted.
This is a 3inch projector fitted.
This is a dodge ram with the 2.5 inch projectors fitted. This is a wet road so it doesn't do the lights justice and these are 35 watt ballasts.
I don't have any of a GQ with the 3inch fitted but this is my GU on high beam with the same 3inch projectors fitted as I fit in the GQs.
These are pictures which shows the cut off on low beam which stops you blinding oncoming drivers like what happens when you just fit HIDs to halogen reflectors. The projector aims the light correctly.
That is a 3inch projector fitted in the 7inch light which I'm only holding it's not in a car and the ballast wasn't warmed up either. You can clearly see the cut off.

So the lights are in and been driving for a week now with them and yes they fixed the problem. I can are where the he'll I am going now. Awesome and well worth every cent. Pics below. Mick I'd love a set of those projectors they look the ducks guts, but come the end of the day they weren't factory fitted so the cops will still canary me for them. I with keep my GQ as legal as possible!

Lights look great, had them in another 4x4. Ended up using sealed beams for a while as it was my bog hole stage
Nothing as bad as seeing a headlight blinking half full of dirty water
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there
FYI .
If you are very careful and remove the globe shield your lights will gain a further out-put improvement.
I did this as I personally thought they still leaved a bit to be desired.
You will get a gain of another 20 + % extra output.
Inserted a pair of long nose pliers and crushed the cover up to pull out hole without scratching reflector.
Bear with me , I did this over a yr ago, twist cover sideways to loosen screw, and remove screw and then crush up cover and discard .
There could be a legal requirement for the cover to be there but I've seen plenty of factory oem without the cover, so it's up to you.
Just use globes that have the tips painted/covered.
It's some old school rule about glare/intensity of lights blinding the oncoming traffic.
Personally, lights are well focused and not blinding at night, I work nights so they get plenty of use and recon they are safe to use.
cheers

I just bought a 96 model in original condition. Seams I might need to do this upgrade too. I don't have any spotlights either so i've been looking at this LED bar. has anyone heard of that?
It will depend on what you want the light bar for?.
the go seems to be,
led bar good spread of light, better suited to off Rd as distance can be somewhat limited.
