Last year I came across a 97 GQ ex SAS patrol car. It had been bought at auction by an older dude who used it to do a lap around oz and then traded it in. This thing had a genuine 60k on the clock and looked like it had just driven out of the showroom. The caryard wanted 15k for it and I was very close to buying it but all the SAS vehicles were petrol which put me off slightly. This thing even had all the original barwork that was fitted to them and the super dark tinted windows. Came with original army log book. Damn it why didn't I buy it!! lol.

I was searching for 4 month daily to find my GQ (I was also looking for a few other options). The good ones usually go within a day or two. As mentioned earlier: be prepared. I recommend a bunch of checklist copies you made for yourself to check on the phone and later in person if the call was successful. Also have a table in Excel or google docs which lists all the extras you want on your car with a price tag. That way you can simply add a new column once you see a car that looks interesting and replace the items it has with a zero. Suddenly you see the real price.

After those 4 month I went overseas btw. When I returned I started searching again and found the car I own now on day 2. It's funny sometimes...

Don't like the new plastic ,computer minded trucks either, last 4by was 75s Troopy, 350 Chev double pro lockers you drove that sucker, needed something softer without IFS in the front. Ended up with Nev the Nissan, $25K one owner, stock std and never been off road. you don't drive it you just sit in it, cruise, auto, I have no imput other than to keep it between the white lines. But the MOF wanted something presentable, but Nev's a great 4x4 but a little sick at the moment, thats getting sorted. So take your time

What about getting a wagon & fitting a ute cab on it, then you can build your own tray to suit what you want n even make it a tipper if you want

I reckon ur pushing up hill to find a gq ute nowadays that ticks all your boxes. Maybe get a wagon for 7/8 and get a ute chop?
