    Weird noise from turbo?

I went for a 300km drive yesterday and did some really knarly off road stuff, some of it was so bad we borderline rolling it. Anyway on the way home there was this strange screeching noise coming from the turbo when it spools. It really sounded like a loose belt on the engine but seems to be coming from the turbo and iws consistent with the spool.
The turbo still spools correctly and seems to have the same power, it doesn't always make the noise but does under acceleration most of the time. I have taken the intake pipe off and it looks normal but there is a bit of shaft play. This turbo is one week old but is a cheap chinese bush bearing T3/T4 thing. I am fairly certain the engine did not get or of loose oil pressure so is this just a case of crap turbo that didn't handle it?

Should have near 0 movement in your turbo if there is play this is no good. Check your dump hasnt come loose from the back of the turbo also this can cause the noise as well.

there is a bit of play on the compressor end of the turbo and none on the exhaust end, thought this might be a problem but still dunno where this noise is coming from. Really weird. I just cant see how it would would still spool and then make this screeching noise. Gonna check all the pulleys and belts in the morning. had a bad exhaust leak too, will see how it all works tomorrow.

It's a bush turbo they do have a little sideways movement even when brand new but shouldn't have any back and forth.
I have heard screeches come from leaking gaskets.
Might be worth checking your oil supply as well a dry bush bearing will screech you did leave the restrictor in the oil feed didn't you ?
Look for black soot around the exhaust flange and turbo flange .

you guys are awesome, i never thought a leaky gasket on the exhaust could cause such a noise. I replaced the manifold gasket and the truck sounds great.
