doesnt sound like bearings to be, get him to check all the bushes as well, certainly have the bearings repacked if they are a little loose

Clunking could be a vast amount of issues.
Wheel bearings could be one, but generally there would be other noises as well.
As Morton said, get him to check bushes and shocks, steering etc as this is more realistic
06 GU IV Nissan Patrol wagon 3.0L, Tough Dog 2" lift, Xrox bar, 12k Mako winch, 33" muddies, 3" exhaust, Awning, UHF, drawers & fridge, custom sliders, DVDs, custom water tank and pump, rack etc etc.
Now just in - GQ Shorty 4.2 petrol, UHF - but looking at turbo or V8 conversion

Pete & Jodie, I would check your radius arm bushes before wheel bearings my 96 gq ute made noises going up kerbs & such turned out bushes were stuffed, you can do it yourself if you are mechanically handy, buy nissan rubber bushes though last longer, and you'll need to get old pressed out and new pressed in about $20 a bush should be. I hope this helps you.
    cheers Honest.
