Hi all,
Moved to Perth from England last year. Got the 4wd bug. Used to mess around a lot with Land Rovers when I was younger (old man had one - broke down more often than it visited the servo!) so happy wielding a set of spanners and sockets on an old truck and I didn't want to spend a lot of cash (who want's to scratch and dent an expensive and shiny truck?!) so picked this up pretty cheap...
1990 High Roof GQ TB42 Auto (Yes...thirsty! So much so my mate calls it the Nissan 'Petrol', very original...)
The good:
-Done only 156k.
-FSH (inc. every receipt since purchase).
-I'am the fourth owner, 1st had it for 20 years, 2 drove it to WA from Sydney, 3rd put it over the pits and sold it to me shortly after.
-High roof means I can sleep in the back on top of drawers - saves me buying an expensive roof tent - leaving more $$$ for truck mods.
-Cheap purchase price (compared to diesel in similar condition).
-Very solid mechanicals (with one exception - see below).
-Good bodywork (apart from one missing inner guard - now replaced).
The bad:
-Petrol not diesel.
-No rear seats - they are still in Sydney.
-Rubbish bed installed in rear - chipboard and timber job.
-Slightly dodgy auto gearbox (stopped engaging 1st and 4th shortly after purchase - I will be starting a thread about diagnosing the problem and fixing it sometime soon).
The plan:
-Gut rubbish rear bed (done).
-Build 400mm high rear drawers and fridge slide.
-Re-install rear seats.
-Build new bed that slides over the rear seats when folded down.
-Fix gearbox (in progress).
-2-4 inch lift (not sure which yet).
-33's.
-Bars, sliders and winch.
-New speakers (cones in old ones have disintegrated!).
.....and whatever else happens along the way!
Anyway, that's my truck as I purchased it. Hopefully it will end up as a decent weekend truck for trips into the bush and up and down the coast. The other half is already concerned at how long I have been spending in the garage and the job isn't even half started!!! Ah well, definitely pleased I picked a 'Troll' though.
