Far out. With stupidity like that it's no wonder 4wds are becoming known as 'dangerous'

I wrote to Holden, requesting that the add be removed, and I also lodged a complaint with the Advertising Standards Bureau. http://www.adstandards.com.au/

hope that holden gets slammed over this!

    Cheers!

Mentioned this at last nights club meeting, sent the youtube link when I got home.
Got this response thismorning from one of our members.

Thanks for sending the link to the ad. It’s a shocker alright. I had a look at the ACMA website and it is not the right place to lodge a complaint. The correct place is http://www.adstandards.com.au/
Click the Lodge a complaint box. You then get asked 6 questions and if you respond correctly get a form to fill online.

The other place to flag this is to media watch. http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/contactus.htm

And of course the 4wd associations. http://www.4wdnsw-act.asn.au/contact.php NSW
    http://www.anfwdc.asn.au/contact.php (National)

    Unbloodybelievable
I have just had my say on the http://www.adstandards.com.au/ website. For question 6 I ticked that the add concerns children. I believe it does because they are potentialy in the firing line straped in an elevated back seat.
Am also going to email Holden directly. I have done this in the past and have always gotten a response.
Lets hope we can get this removed.

Spoken like a man returning to bearded bliss!
I agree with yuo Plassy i have seen a chain slingshot but it was attached to two BIG ARSED tractors, it went off like a rocket, however it stayed very low. The issue with the ad it is putting out there to use a towball as a recovery point, which we all know is just not on

IF YA DONT GET STUCK YA AINT TRYIN HARD ENOUGH........OR YA TOOK THE CHICKEN TRACK

You do have a point there Plassy, however a tow ball is made for a trailer or caravan etc, demonstrating that a towball should be used at all for recovery I think is wrong.
Having been in heavy earthmoving for almost 50 years, I have seen chains snap under shock loads and seen shackles and hooks go flying.
The chain in itself is not that bigger danger altho I would not like to be anwhere near one when it snaps.
By demonstrating that you could pull a bogged 3.5 ton trailer with the towball as a recovery point is sending the wrong message, many would think that a chain or snatch strap is safe, just from watching the add.
But not everyone has the common sense when hooking up a chain or strap, and this is why people die.
Your point is truly noted Plassy, thankyou for that.
    Cheers, the ferret.

    Plasnart,
Yes chains stretch. You may not see it but they do. I have a dogmans ticket and I can tell you I have seen the results of snapped chains in industry. Nobody can predict where they go or how far. I have seen shackles hitting roofs of workshops and i have also seen overhead gantry cranes with the multible rope hooks turned inside out from broken chains after the load has dropped.
It may not look like much on a chain but the ball is not connected to the chain so it will fly. Once it breaks the implement used to break it (strap, chain, rope or wire) does not matter, it is the amount of force applied just before it breaks that sends it flying.

    Chains used for recovery.

Here are a some vidiots I found on Youtube. The first one is not very clear but becomes interesting at the 53 second mark, the second one becomes interesting at the 9 second mark, the third one gets interesting around 4:01
