    turbo pistons

    hey guys rebuilding my 1996 na td 42 atm looking at buying a turbo rebuild kit liners/pistons ect could ne one tell me if my na rods will take the new turbo gudgeon pins? and do the turbo pistons decompress the engine at all? cant find ne pics so ne help would be awsome cheers

    Some were 28mm and others were 30mm best to ring your supplier and ask them. Im pretty sure the NA had the 28mm gudgeon. The earlier TD42T had the stronger piston with a 28mm gudgeon and then the TD42Ti had the 30mm I think (there are so many variables). Your supplier should also be able to supply you with info to the height of the pistons compared to an NA and if they will affect your compression. Thats about all i can add hopefully there will be more to follow. Good luck with it all.

    Sorry thread rape .........................I'm going to do a turbo and intercooler job on my 4.2 n/a too.
    I didn't realise though that the pistons etc needed to be changed/upgraded !
    What's the likely outcome of not doing the pistons etc?
    Y60 Patrol 4.2 d SWB in puke green
    2" body lift, 2" pedders suspension lift, 35" Simex muds on excel 16" alloys, needs a turbo :/

    All td42's are 22.7:1 compression.
    Factory turbo engines have different pre chambers.

    makeitfit u def dont need turbo internals to turbo the td 42 iv just pulled mine to bits and the thing has some major internal parts rods/gudgeons ect its built like a truck inside but whilst i have it apart thinking of rebuilding with turbo internals

    thanks mate will do. after pulling mine apart today i think il just rebuild with the na kit the inside of that engine is huge i had no idea, u would have to be working it seriously hard to wreck that bottom end!
