Installing 12V winch into a 24V vehicle : possible ?

I'll second that - we had a 12v winch and in addition to pull-power issues, it caused some odd electrical events when operating(e.g. messing up the radio), then we changed for a 24v and never had a problem again. If you can - go for a 24v.

I wd like to correct my previous statement on my ride : it is not using 4.TD engine, instead using SD33T engine ... just realised after getting the engine number seen with SD33T code ..

I have now converted it into a 12 V system, and installed a WARN XD9000i 12 V winch ... I do have annoying electrical problem like radio and power window on off unintentionally .. but I think it is due to bad set up even from 24 V time ... will try to find way to sort this out .. slowly ..

If I do that, would it cause unbalance current bank between the two batteries as the winch will only draw current from one battery ? Any bad impact during recharging both batteries by the 24V alternator ? I am worry one battery will be overcharged and blown up before the other one fully charged ..

That won't cause any problems at all the batteries are hooked up in series and will equalise.

No they won't... they need to be in parallel to equalise not series.

In series a "high" battery will not equalise or help charge a "low" one.

You will find also that allot of the comp guys are "upgrading" their GQs to 24v just to run a 24v winch as it runs and pulls much faster than a 12volt winch will.

Chasing a 24v conversion for your winch is a winner here for sure.

If you check these comp trucks you will find 12v winch solenoids switching 24v to (12v) winch motor
this makes winch faster & stronger (despite running a 12v winch motor on 24v this practice actually lasts quite well ask the comp boys ? )
