My Patrol came to me with very dark tint. I cannot stand it.

    1. My rear defoster now works like it is covered by a blanket (a very bad thing when you live in Ukraine)
    2. Many times I have had to open windows to see what is in my side view mirrors at night.

I think this is correct but you must have left door mirror fitted if not already.
    we do this with trucks.

In NSW, its routine during pink slip time for the assessor to get out the tint slide to confirm its OK. Also, there is rules about tinting of the front windscreen. Cant hit the wipers on operation and a rule about the height of tinting vs the height of the windscreen.

Does this mean that the flyscreen socks you put over your windows keepin the bugs out whilst the windows open are illegal also ?
I KNOW, in our case, these things do definately obscure my vision, and cause constant verbal exchanges with management on the issue. Window tint fitted is legal per W.A. requirements.
I do believe, fitters can be held legaly liable if fitting illegal tinting. So my fitter told us anyway.

ok here is my 2 cents worth...
i went to one of the window tinting guys here in cairns..
they said that the rear side windows of a wagon are ok to go heaps dark same with rear passenger windows,,,, BUT .... front driver and passenger windows have to be legal tint or factory tint only....
i had a car with dark windows in the front,, its mad. very hard to see out of so wont be doing that again..
i have a mesh stuff on my rear windows atm helps to keep prying eyes away ...

it seems the police in each state have different "views" on wot they will pull u for. juz before i sold my dual cab hilux i got pulled over comin home from wheelin on the beach, that particular day was about 38* in the shade so easily 40+ in the car. my windows were BLACK almost looked spray painted, funnily enuf tho he didnt pull me over for the tint but actually the rod holders of all things!! (his concern was that were fitted securely). he did ask about the tint tho an was happy with my response which was that we spend alot of time off road and bein that it gets bloody hot in wa thru summer it protects the kids from that direct sun light, he gave the rod holders another shake n told us to have a good one! either he was an offroader himself or wasnt really phased altogether as we both new the tint was well and truely to dark! i guess it also comes down to the attitude of the officer and the attitude u give them?

1 more thing lol, i spent alot of time in the pits during my younger yrs with my commodore which had every possibly gauge, light and aftermarket bit u could think of ALL ON A PERMIT and u can get most things permitted if ur smart. Gauges and things of that nature can be passed at the inspectors discression, so if there done neatly and arent over the top massive things then its fine. thats here in wa anyway...
    Soooooo..... You come here often??

Thats why you wont find window socks for front door windows anywhere and your tint guy in Cairns needs to update himself with the new rules. Windows rear of the drivers seat must not be less than 35% luminous transmittance except the Northern Territory which is 15%, window socks would be illegal now because of the impaired visibility ruling alone.
    Here's the latest VSB14 from January 2011. Pages 24 & 25 cover window tinting

The privacy tint shouldn't shouldn't be less than 35% on the front windows as the laws always been 35% for front door windows. If it is Toyota have failed big time!
