    here is how I do it, diesel fitters might cringe but who cares.

    1: cut the top off a drink can or plastic bottle to make a container.
    2: remove the rubber return fuel line off the metal pipe and place the container under it so it is snug and won't fall out
    3: start the engine and fill up the container with the return fuel then shut off the engine, remove the container being careful not to get any crap in it as you lift if out, replace the return line and secure.
    4: remove the old fuel filter and the water sensor (I remove the rubber supply hose from the filter body and tie it up high to the aftercooler frame being careful not to spill any fuel out, by removing this you allow better access to the filter to be removed)
    5: put the water sensor on the new filter and fill it up carefully with the fuel you have collected (remember this fuel has been filtered)
    6: replace the fuel filter
    7:give a few pumps to the primer until it is hard-ish
    8:start the engine and go buy some beer
