Check out my Toy --> MudRunnerTD's GQ From the Ground Up
The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Gday mate, the truck looks great mate!
There are alot of quick Patrols on the road now, Heaths Duramax is stupidly fast! There is also a twin turbo LS1 GU making 490hp on a lazy 9psi.
Will be good to see a 26 in a patrol.
Wow, 12.27... That's faster than my 200sx ran, but I did have a LOT of wheel spin! I ran a 13.502 with no traction in 1st or second. Auto box would make that time a lot easier to obtain. Looks like I have a lot of work on my hands if I will hold this title of Aus's fastest trol.
Back to the build now, I have just had the bearings in the rear diff replaced as the front one had let go, and the diff is still a little noisy. So I looked into the price of oem crown and pinion gears, looks like the replacement ones are $1,100 each and the low ratio turbo diesel ones 4.625:1 are half the price, so I could do my low ratio diff mod now.
The BIG question now is... Do these diesel low ratio gears fit into my petrol diff housing? Or is there a better option for about $500-$600 per end? I'll also be looking into lockers while it's all apart. Any hints on what's the best bang for buck on lockers and any to steer clear of would be great.

lockers arb or tjm seem to be the standard or auto lockers like lokka or detroit seem to be the go with high hp I'd want mini or full spool if it's a staight comp truck and not on the road as a daily.
As for your rb sat up Are you going to stroke it or use the rb30 bottom for low torque and the 26 head and twin turbo set up and a 100 shot of nos to spool her up would be the go.
Do you need to change the diff ratios for your 4x4 a transfer case reduction gears will sort out your rock crawling running 40" tyres 33's for the road and strip you might not need the gear change it's short enough depens if you're after 1/4 mile runs or off road racing then you'll wanna plate and brace your diffs for jumping to.

Whoever cannot take care of themselves without that law is both.

'If I live, I will kill you. If I die, You are forgiven.'
Such is the rule of honour.
thanks MudSlut and everyone who has contributed something to MudSluts post - an area of Patrolling I know nothing about, and will not be involved in.
Despite that, makes for fascinating reading.
Good luck, and looking forward to more interesting reads :-)

The centres should go straight in not sure if there are differences in axle splines at all. lokka dont do a rear for the patrol and i heard detroits are becoming hard to find
IF YA DONT GET STUCK YA AINT TRYIN HARD ENOUGH........OR YA TOOK THE CHICKEN TRACK![]()
WARNING: TOWBALLS USED WITH SNATCHSTRAPS DO KILL!!
Well I'm not going to be entering truck racing events like the King of the Hammer event as it looks like a great way to destroy your truck... It will be more made for just a bit more fun off road and a squirt on the black top every not and then. I want to keep it as capable as a daily as possible but mostly a weekend worrier.
I didn't know a gear reduction was in the Transfer case, what would be the difference between changing the diffs compared to the transfer case? Is the transfer case reduction only when you put it in "Low reduction"? As far as I know the diffs that are in it at the mo are the tallest ones that the patrol came with, I think I will need to lower the ratio of the diffs anyways if I get 40's because it's slow enough as it is, I haven't ever used 5th gear...

Heaths new engine combo should see him pushing close to the 10s mark and is aiming for somewhere in the vicinity of 1000 rwhp not to mention the turbo 4.8s out of dubai could get some inspiration off these fellas have you thought about the possibilty of something like a 2JZ setup very tough motor and can make great power on a standard bottom end more so than the 26
Transfer gears will only change your low range gearing. Where as diff gears change your final drive ratio regardless of where the transfer is selected. It depends on what tyres your going to run on the street, if 35's i would be doing the diff gears as well as it will improve driveability on the black top sunstantially.
