Squeel front left 2.8 GQ

Hay Guys.

I have noticed a squeel (metal rubbing on metal sound) coming from front left of my GQ 2.8. The sound only starts sfater driving for a while and generally after breaking. The sound then stops once over 50km/h, returning once slowed. I have checked wheel bearing and its solid, nil problem. I have had break caliper off with no issues found. Break pads have plenty left on them. I have tried to replicate sound whilst car is jacked up with no result.

Any help would be great

Hmmm ... Until you said you'd had the caliper off, I would have thought a stone stuck in it or the guard ...

When you had the clippers out, did you take the pads out fully? Question being, we're the baffle plates still behind the pads?? If they're missing, the pad will move and rub against the disk - this will cause the squeal you mention which would disappear at higher speeds ...

Mine was doing the same until i got it bogged in some thick mud up over the diffs since then the squeal has dissapeared lol.

Ok more info on this issue.

whilst driving last night I found it def only starts after has been driven for 10 min or so, so I'm thinking something has to heat up. Then found once sound starts if I swerve car around when serving right sound stops, so could be something loose falling onto spinning part, I have had all break callipers off with no problems found. Could it be that I need to change break fluid? Does look a bit cloudy in reservoir.

Noise changes tones but does not completely stop untill stopped. If stop briefly and start again noise still there. If I stop and wait with hand break on noise gone. Thinking may be excess water in break lines causing pads to not return properly.

Have you checked the rubber pads that sit on top of your coil's?
If they are warn out, it could explain the metal on metal noises.

Odd that the handbrake has an affect maybe the handbrake pads are dragging.
What happens if you pull your handbrake up whilst driving.
Does it have any affect.

Ok, thins is become a pain in the ass big time. Handbreak applied whilst driving does not affect sound, thank you the your addvice. Checked all rubbers on coils, few splits but not worn to the point of conntact, thank you for you input.

I have just been for a drive around by suburbs, as usuall initiall sound did not start when truck was cold. I then drove around and heated up the breaks, I then drove into shed jacked up and spun the wheels, front left had a squeel. Def sounds like pad rubbing. Im at a loss. Thinking ill do break fluid and if unchnged ill be taking to the mech, or break specialist anyways.
