    GU 2.8 or 3.0l?

    I want to buy a GU and do a TD42 conversion, but will probably need to drive it around for a while till a decent TD42 turns up. Both conversions are similar, so from that aspect it doesn't matter to much and they are around the same price to buy. Which would be better to drive around in for a while?

    the one with the 3.0 will be a later model, the diff ratios may be different as might be the gearboxes?? Guessing now sorry.

    You might get coin for the 2.8 when you strip it out. people would be nuts to buy an early 3.0lt that had been taken out though? you might get some cash for the 2.8 from someone with a blown one.
    Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!! ....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

    The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

    Thanks. Ultimately the 3.0 l would be a better recipient for the td42, but I would hate for it to die before I am ready for the transplant.

    Wouldn't converting a 4.5 be easier ?

    Get a 3 litre mate so the gearbox and diffs rtc all mate up easier as said before. The 3lt motor is alright if looked after and nads done to them. 2.8 you'd have to change gearbox etc and a 4.5 you'd have to change the fuel system and clean the tanks etc

    Many people here have 3 ltrs and love them and have them reliable search nads or anti grenade. if you buy a 3 ltr buy after 2003 and most of the issues are solved and then do nads and it'll go well and be reliable

    Thanks again macca.

    I was considering the 4.5 as well, just didn't want to feed it in the mean time. Although one with gas might come in handy.

    Why not just get a late model 3.0 did or even better still a 3.0 crd, they are both reliable and would perform better than a 4.2

    I don't have the $$$$ for a 4.2 or a late model anything.
