Hello people.

Should a laptop battery last long enough to watch a 2hr DVD?

The one we've got is a few years old but nothing wrong with it. Even got Windows 2007 home edition.

Any ideas on the price of a new battery?

you may be lucky Rosscoe, my works dell laptop can do it, but the missus Toshiba laptop only lasts about an our on battery playing dvds......................... not too sure on prices on batteries, havent really looked into it mate, but I reckon if its for when your out and about camping, you'll be better off with an inverter..................... what make and model laptop have you got?

You can get after market extended life battery's for Lap Tops but price will depend on the make.

I have a Dell 1720 and purchased a Battery for $70 odd that I have charged up and take with me on trips.

Small cost to have a Backup and I also have an Inverter so covered for most situations

My work HP laptop has 2 batteries and I get about 6 hours of run time if I'm using it. Will last all day if the screen is down. These batteries are only new after I got down to less than an hour run time on the old batteries. I hope Dell batteries are cheaper than HP, the 2 new HP batteries cost $500!

Side note, this is not my original laptop, the original died a few weeks after I got the new batteries but I swapped the new batteries over.
The battery in my phone died earlier in the year, I fitted a new battery and a few weeks later the phone died.
I fitted a new battery to the van not long ago........................

What make and model is it Roscoe?

I just bought some new Dell batteries for a 1520 out of Hong kong for $28 delivered. If it is an older Toshy Sat Pro and you take the battery out you can run it off 12 volts BUT don't let the voltage drop down to much. I got away with that for years.

The best way for camping IMHO is a voltage converter (12 volts input and 13.5 15 17 etc selectable output) that plugs straight into any lappy and run off the Camping Power... Next best (but very inefficient) is to run an inverter and the 240 volt adapter into the Lappy.

Or... you can spend some bucks and get top of the wozza extended batteries for some makes but BIG bucks relatively speaking.

Running a DVD is pretty much the most power hungry application you can have so you will need either good lappy batteries or use the Camp 12 Volts/Genny or whatever
