Haven't had a log out in ages......and in this case that's a good thing lol!
I like the new search results page. The only thing I don't like about it us when you find a thread your after, you can only read it and not reply so you have to remember where it us and go searching manually..... But I'll get over it. At least I keep my logs in now!

NissanGQ4.2
13th August 2012, 09:40 PM
Yes you can Lucas, the easiest way of doing it is

Zoom out so you can see the whole page you want to copy

In Adobe Reader
Goto "Edit"
Select "Take a Snap Shot"
Move cursor to top left of the page you want to copy
Hold down your left mouse button then drag your cursor to the bottom right hand corner of page, then release mouse button.

Open up word or similar and paste

Cheers

riskset,

Go into applications>utilities>disk utility

Select your USB disk, then select erase you should then be able to erase and format it for MS - Dos (Fat 32 file system)

YOU WILL LOSE THE INFO ON THE USB STICK, so copy any info elsewhere first.

Hope this helps

A few weeks ago Andy reset my password as I couldnt get in, since then.... the following.
When I log in it goes to welcome Macca for a moment then goes back to log in page. Hit refresh and logs in, has notifications etc.
Open a thread, if I have posted in that thread I need to refresh the page to bring up the last post. It shows the last post in the "whats new" list but it doesnt go there when I open it.
Is there a box to tick in set up that I have buggered up?

I cant even get onto the site. Theres no error message, it just tries for 5 minutes then goes to a blank tab.

Also, theres a few pages here that have been taking way too long to load and when i look down the bottom of the screen, it says "connecting to photobucket" or "waiting for photobucket"

So whats your problem Rossco???

Most service providers allow you to have 5 email addresses...... or you could use Gmail, Yahoo mail or 1 of the 10 million other free email services out there

I use my current Thunderbird email software to check 3 different email accounts, 2 that I use and 1 that my partner uses.

So easy to do.

First off who is your internet provider?

Whats the go with photobucket???

Every fortnight or so photobucket slows down to a grinding halt and i cant even open the page. At the same time, any forum pages with photobucket links take forever to open or simply dont open at all. Is it just on my end or does photobucket fail often? Its damn frustrating that i cant get onto photobucket and its plain wrong that if its having issues, it stops this forum from running properly.

Can anything be done? can we all get together and tell photobucket to pull its socks up??

hi wild, if you internet is slow i can suggest a few things. first off tho are you on cabled ADSL? or the telstra wireless?

either way, goto: http://www.speedtest.net run a speed test and post your results back on here so i can check them for you.

it depends on what the result is, but if you are getting poor internet speeds on all websites, and the results agree, you may have a line fault.

anyway, post up some results and ill get back to ya

too east mate, let me know how u go eitherway. it does sound like u need to talk to ur ISP about having a line fault. have you had any heavy rain, mouse plagues or nearby earthworks? that will most likely be the cause of your problems. they will just have to patch your line over to another patch port.

Hey Rusty, still got issues and can't even load the speed test, spent some time doing deep scan as Toddsta said, sent him the results last night and followed his advice. Puter has no viruses and rebooted. Fingers were crossed.. Whoohoo was all good for the first site I loaded and that was it. So going to call ISP and see if that's the issue. Thanks for the advice mate, and thanks for the help last night Toddsta

Well I would tend to slightly disagree there mate. Depending on the condition of the computers hard drive data. I have had plenty of customers come to me with their slow computers and all they needed was a good clean out and a defrag. I give it back to them and they can't believe how much faster it is and then they hand over their $$$$. It actually does do something with your data on the drive. Not just waste your time performing it.
I actually used to use a third party defrag program when I was heavily into overclocking and benchmarking. Benchmarking is the equivalent of the 1/4 mile drag, just for the people who didn't know....
Every point, every millisecond counted when benchmarking. I was running -30c cpu temps and watercooled twin graphics cards. Waterblocks on hard drives the list goes on. Now I just pour all that money into my Patrol...But now I have a lot less of it.

So while it is still useful, in certain cases, most of the time its not needed.

No worries Pete, my missus thought I was having an affair with someone texting me at that time of night *LMAO*

Sorry mate haven't had a chance 2 look up that virus, so don't know if it was dangerous or not............ and you laughed at me when I said ur know 2 catch a lot of STD's *LMAO*

Still could be a line fault as Nic has suggested, I would clear all my browsers cache / temp files and go straight to a speed test page.

Keep on top of those deep scans Pete!!! and I would reccomend changing any internet passwords you may have that are important

hi wild, if you internet is slow i can suggest a few things. first off tho are you on cabled ADSL? or the telstra wireless?

either way, goto: http://www.speedtest.net run a speed test and post your results back on here so i can check them for you.

it depends on what the result is, but if you are getting poor internet speeds on all websites, and the results agree, you may have a line fault.

anyway, post up some results and ill get back to ya

Finally got to speed test Rusty;

RESULTS:

Ping 25ms
Download speed 3.98Mbps
Upload speed .58Mbps

Still not super quick, but at least its running 1/2 normal ATM and can access sites now.

Appolagies to Erin Todd, LMAO sounds like early in the piece when i joined the forum, my miss's was hell bent that i was having an affair too lol.

Kallen,

I don't know much about Ipads / Touch Pads, I have only just started researching.

Doesn't seem to bad for the price, but I would be wary of buying anything electronic from overseas, unless it has warranty and there was a service centre located in Australia.

Send Nic ( Rusty Nails ) a PM he will let you know what he thinks of it and if you tell him your budget he might be able to recommend something else..

Was also told to be careful with what you buy as replacing a screen for example could cost you more than what you bought the unit for in the first place.

Sorry can't be of any more help

Also if your stereo System is not much chop, you can buy Stereo's these days that have removable touch pads...... pretty cool stuff\\

You can use something like dropbox or google drive or icloud to store files, pics, vids etc and can access them from anywhere in the world from a phone or pc.

Otherwise if you just want to remote desktop into your PC you can use a program called logmein (www.logmein.com).Use the free version and load the client side on your PC and you can access that PC from anywhere or anything connected to the net by just loging into their website. Works on iphone but is a bit tricky to manurer around but works

Yep, with dropbox you share files or upload files onto the cloud(some big storage area somewhere in the world).

Logme in is just a little program that runs on your PC and when you want to access that PC and take control of it remotely, you just log into logmein website and you can just use that PC normally but from a remote location.

Good luck mate. I have computers of friends here and overseas and when they have any issues I can just log into their PC and check it out....pretty cool

Yeah, batteries are strange creatures. They can last better if they are flattened and some are better if they are not flattened at all. We have some clever batteries around these days so we should be able to eliminate the problem .
Lithium-Ion batteries should sort the problems out for now!

Hey guys - for what it's worth - when you first get a laptop it pays massive amounts to charge the battery fully the first time for what they recommend in the user manual - some are 15 hours, some 9 and some 24. Did some benchmarking on this a while ago and found that depending on the battery type (and using the manufacturers recommendation for first charge) resulted in up to 200% prolonged battery life. For example, 13" Macbook Pro - take one and charge on first use for 9 hours, other use straight away - the one charged as per their instructions still going strong (6 hour battery life). One used straight away averages about 2.75 hours. Won't go into tedious detail but trust me - almost always works.

Don't know how true it is but I read somewhere, if you run your lappy off the power cord and your battery is in fully charged state, you should remove the battery to prolong its overall life...........
Like I said, I don't know how true it is.
The missus has a Toshiba, fully charged the battery before using the lappy, battery used to last about 2 hours but just after a year,
Lucky to get 15 minutes out of it. She used to run it off the power cord all the time. Should get a new battery for it really but just slack lmao

Hi wild - if you prefer non-Mac try a lappie that has a 9 cell rather than a 6 cell battery - should be able to get 4:30 to 5 hours out of it. Some of the extended Dell batteries last that long.

Weird stuff happening. Since this afternoon the odd email coming into my inbox will get a date stamp of 25/01/2000. Even emails from from the same site about the same thread might be split, some with the correct date and one with the 2000 date. I'm using Windows Live email with Windows 7 64 bit.

Appreciate any ideas on this.

Hey mate - the short answer is it is a quirk of Apple devices. Long answer is because the iPhone, iPad, etc store rotational information in the vid which something like QuickTime can decipher, however things like Windows Media Player cannot. You can edit in Windows Movie Maker as follows:

1.Import the video clip into Windows Movie Maker.
2.Drag the imported video clip and drop it onto the timeline.
3.On the Tools menu, click Video Effects.
4.To rotate the video clip to the right, drag the Rotate 90 video effect and drop it onto the movie on the timeline.
Or to rotate the video clip to the left, drag the Rotate 270 video effect and drop it onto the movie on the timeline.
5.On the File menu, click Save Movie File and follow the instructions in the Save Movie Wizard.

Ok heres one for you guys... Recently had a ADSL+2 package installed in house and am using a wiresless modem to create a hub...
Been sweet as up untill we went to adelaide and used my parents hub while up there. while up there my parents were talking of an issue were from time to time there connection would just drop out, still in range of the modem and full service, but they would get a no connection warning come up... I though slow line speed, not much can be done..

Well bugga me, were now getting the same issues.. Mainly on our most used sites faceache, and a few of our forums (this one included even threw tapa). I sometimes cant even load a post up via tapa...
Now this is the bit im stuffed with, turn off wifi and jump back onto the 4G and bag straight away we off and running... So a connection issue??
But...
I jump onto a different site while on wifi (ie ebay, download emails) and everything seems to be fine and quick, like normal... So that rules out connection and makes it a phone thing..
But
Me and the wife are both displaying the same issues, at different times on the same wifi network... And both on different styles of phone, mine the htc and the wifes the iphone 5..
So could it be cookies? dunno..

HELP PLEASE..

One way to find out if you have connection issues is to plug your pc into you modem via ethernet.... It may have something to do with your WiFi setup. Is your WiFi installed central in the house or one side/end? I had the same problem with my old modem/router when I first switched over to Telstra, kept dropping out all the time, changed over to the one Telstra supplied me and have had no issues since.
Is your WiFi 8.11g or n?

Hi Kal,

It could be a number of things which I will list in order of likely to least likely:

1. If you can browse to some sites quickly but not others that generally rules out a connectivity issue BUT not a routing issue within your ISP. Who are you using and what's your external IP (you should see this as being assigned via DHCP on the modem)?
2. Wifi interference - depending on what other wireless devices you have around they could be causing some interference
3. DoS attack - you could be being hit by remote computers intermittently (but unlikely as you say some sites work fine)
4. MTU issue - what protocol are you using? PPPoE, PPPoA, bridged?
5. Can you connect another device vie Ethernet to the modem and see if the issue happens?
6. If at 5 you're PC or laptop is fine but the wifi connected devices still exhibit issues then we are at a Wifi issue
7. If a Wifi issue - then try setting up the modem to use 802.11b/g as opposed to .11n. Mobile devices can be finicky
8. If that doesn't work check your signal strength and connection on the device. Are you getting a good signal or a lot of loss?
9. Send me your external IP and I will do some diagnostics by tracing back to you from various internet hosts.

Let me know how this goes and I can then help some more.

Hi mate - do you have an Ethernet cable? If so connect your PC straight into the modem. So you'll need either a long cable - but if you say you're PC is connected via Wifi to the modem and it doesn't have issues then I would be leaning to an issue with your mobile devices. Try and set the modem to 802.11g if you can?

What you tapin at!!!!!????

Care to explain the reason.

My understanding is when you get a free anti virus it is just that, ant virus, Trojan and worm protection.

Then you have a paid version which will often have web protection, cloud protection, kid content protection and then you have premium services where you get email phishing protection, pc booster, file encrypter and all the other junk.

So the basic antivirus is identical to the paid versions without the junk you don't want.

Has worked for me for years anyway.

Hey Clunk - I get what you are saying but have to agree with Nisshead on this - AVG is a rock-solid A/V without the bells and whistles. Think of it like Tigerz giving away a good quality basic product but then selling a premium version (ok - not the best analogy - but you know what I mean). What the software vendors do is entice you in with a basic, working, quality product but then you want this feature or that feature. The main thing with A/V is that your virus definition files are updated as soon as new threats/exploits/viruses are identified. The difference between the good vendors of A/V is just that - and the difference can be minutes.....

Food for thought, i operate a computer everyday at home and i do not have an anti virus installed. anti virus is peace of mind for people who are unsure of what they are up to on computers IMHO. I've never had a virus on my computer and when I did it was completely my fault. At the end of the day viruses are completely avoidable and can't get onto your computer without your say so. As I said before, AVG is a great free program and its the one i would recommend but It's not absolutely nessecary to have. Most times the best security on your computer is to have a simple password and taking time to read what you are clicking on if you are unsure of what it is.

Cheers

Food for thought, i operate a computer everyday at home and i do not have an anti virus installed. anti virus is peace of mind for people who are unsure of what they are up to on computers IMHO. I've never had a virus on my computer and when I did it was completely my fault. At the end of the day viruses are completely avoidable and can't get onto your computer without your say so. As I said before, AVG is a great free program and its the one i would recommend but It's not absolutely nessecary to have. Most times the best security on your computer is to have a simple password and taking time to read what you are clicking on if you are unsure of what it is.

Cheers

Hi Nic - that's a pretty dangerous way to operate in my opinion. You must be very cautious in what you view - for example - it would be quite trivial for me to plant some malicious code in a picture on this very forum and when you view it causing your computer to do anything ranging from deleting all your data, planting a trojan which emails spam, etc.....

You don't just need to click on links or reply to man-in-the-middle style exploits.... There are several ways you can get a virus or be compromised. Not saying it doesn't work for you mate - but I think it is pretty dangerous to not have some form of AV - unless you run a Mac (as I do - and no I don't have AV software installed!).

I guess your right, most sites I visit are regarded as safe, but when I do stray from the path I have never had a problem, like I said its not for everyone but it suits me. At the end of the day a virus needs to me executed to do its thing, as long as I don't execute those files there is no problem, I've been doing it for several years and haven't had a problem. There are viruses for mac, but the reason the majority of viruses don't affect mac users is cos they are written for windows based environments, not "cos it's mac she'll b right". I'm not trying to offend by saying this jas but to say I am taking a big risk by not having AV and for you to say you don't need it cos you have a mac is pretty hypocritical.

Hey mate - that was tongue in cheek... :) And you're right on a virus needing to be executed - however the simple act of clicking on an image can cause a virus to be installed. I guess my point is I wouldn't recommend it to anyone though.

I believe the P4x4 site got malware through a picture which caused hundreds of infections.
The reason I use AV plus other security is I disclose lots of personal info over the internet and I would rather be safe then sorry. And it being free is a bonus :)

Yep yep dw I wasn't offended either, just statin my reasoning. I fully get what u say with it needing to be clicked on... BUT someone would have to do a pretty good job to make something look genuine enough to be tricked by it. Most of the time windows defender(free with w7/8)will pick up anything malicious if ur hdds are indexed. I have 13tbs of data to protect so trust me I'm pretty dam careful and anal with my computer use.

Back on track, my mate is a bit of a whizz at computers and he never uses anti virus. Just firewalls his computer real well and backs up on separate HDDs. He cleans, re installs and refreshes his computer every few months so gets rid of anything then

Oky dokey...lol

My Belkin wireless is starting to play up and has intermittent connections all the time.

I have a standard Bigpond 2Wire modem hooked up with the Belkin Wireless.

I just found a brand new Bigpond modem in my shed with a wireless adapter built inside. I recently got a static IP set up from Bigpond so my question is...

Do I simply install the driver that came with this Bigpond modem/wireless device thinngy, reconnect all of my wireless devices and everything will work hunky dorey or is it more advanced than that???

I simply cannot be bothered calling Bigpond and listening to someone who has no idea and cannot be understood properly...lol

I'm just a bit paranoid about installing the drivers which might stuff up my original settings???

I just don't want to ruin my current settings that's all.
