Not a question but computer related. I just found my old, photobucket account and was trawling through some of the pics. Back then I was madly into pc modding, making my own cases, watercooling and also sub zero cooling. Only the pc nerds will understand and appreciate this stuff I would think. I used to make a lot of cash making these rigs up and selling them.
This was my first build. A fully watercooled pc. CPU and both GPU's were cooled with water.

For some who don't know, we would overclock our pc's. So we would have a 2.5ghz cpu and make it run at say 3.2ghz or even faster. So when your doing this, things get a little hot, as the cpu would hit a wall and not go faster, so we would increase the cpu voltages. More volts equates to more speed, which equates to even more heat. At this point a fan just won't do, so the next step up is watercooling. This would bring temps to just above ambient. Then there's TEC cooling, thermo electric, or Peltier cooling with a ceramic pad which is engergized and this will make one side hot and one side cold. The cold side would go on the cpu. Next is refrigerant cooling such as the pics. You would see -10c to anywhere down to -45c. From there it goes using dry ice and then there was LN2 or Liquid nitrogen. This would see temps go down as low as -100c. I used to be a goffer for a bloke who did this stuff as a job. Yep he got paid by the big known pc parts manufacturers to literally destroy their stuff. All the cooling after water cooling required a chit load of thermal grease to be smeared all over where the cpu is located so not one bit of air would get in as if air does, you would get condensation in there and its bye bye to the cpu and or motherboard. I used to also run a circular shaped heat pad around the cpu area and also one on the backside of the motherboard. Just to help ward off teh moisture trolls.

So heres some pics, it sure does bring back memories that for sure.
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i23/optimus_photo/PC%20Pics/Picture056Large.jpg (http://s68.photobucket.com/user/optimus_photo/media/PC%20Pics/Picture056Large.jpg.html)
This one I built used to run twin graphics cards which were both watercooled and the cpu water running at -14c give or take.

The lower section of the case which houses the compressor was made from a full tower case cut down, and another case on top to house the pc. Same top case as the first pic...
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i23/optimus_photo/PC%20Pics/IMG_4641.jpg (http://s68.photobucket.com/user/optimus_photo/media/PC%20Pics/IMG_4641.jpg.html)
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i23/optimus_photo/Pc%20Case/IMG_4823.jpg (http://s68.photobucket.com/user/optimus_photo/media/Pc%20Case/IMG_4823.jpg.html)

I then wanted more speed out of the pc, which meant I had to get the cpu colder. So I went to a larger 1/4hp compressor which saw around -27c when the cpu was fully underload and Windows stable while being bench tested. At idle it would sit at around -40c.
So I had to build a larger case of course. It was almost the same as a shop one you can buy, called a Vapochill.
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i23/optimus_photo/PC%20Pics/IMG_5689Large.jpg (http://s68.photobucket.com/user/optimus_photo/media/PC%20Pics/IMG_5689Large.jpg.html)
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i23/optimus_photo/Vapo%20case/IMG_5348Large.jpg (http://s68.photobucket.com/user/optimus_photo/media/Vapo%20case/IMG_5348Large.jpg.html)

Stick your tongue on this and you'll know about it....
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i23/optimus_photo/Vapo%20case/IMG_5338Large.jpg (http://s68.photobucket.com/user/optimus_photo/media/Vapo%20case/IMG_5338Large.jpg.html)

This is what they look like inside pretty much. This was my first cpu chiller I had. I lost count of how many motherboard and cpu's I lost too condensation.
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i23/optimus_photo/PC%20Pics/Picture1161Large.jpg (http://s68.photobucket.com/user/optimus_photo/media/PC%20Pics/Picture1161Large.jpg.html)

Ask any hardcore pc nerd about spending five, six or even seven hours a night about bench testing their pc, trying to squeeze every last bit of speed out of the cpu by overclocking it. Then once your done with that, we'd overclock the ram and then the graphic card/s, then combine the lot and enter comps to win money. Yes there was comps. I got six fastest in Aus in my category back in the day. Running an AMD Opteron 170 2ghz CPU at 3.2ghz. Back then AMD were the cpu's to have and Intel couldn't even get close to them. Then Intel released the first real quad core CPU with L1 and L2 cache levels that AMD couldn't even get near. It was pretty much curtains for AMD after that.

Thanks for reading.

Yer I'm still a gamer. I reckon I always will be.
Current pc just runs watercooling on the cpu, just for quietness these days, and I stare at a 30inch Dell monitor. Nothing better than chucking on the Sennheiser headphones after a shite day, getting online and go shoot and blow people up in Battlefield 4.
Making these rigs up to sell takes up a lot of your time as everything has to be exact and spot on. It would take around 3-4 weeks for me to build one up from start to finish. Depending on how much work I need to do for the case. I don't over clock anymore as my current pc is plenty fast enough (although I can feel an upgrade itch coming on...) to play my games at full res, so zub zero cooling isn't really needed. Watercooling is as far as I go now. and that just purely for the silence of it over just having a fan on a heat sink.

This is a screen shot of an overclocked cpu. Stock cpu speed on this thing is 3ghz. Running it at -20c I could get it to run at over 4.3ghz. The Super Pi program running beside it is like the 1/4 mile drag for cpu's... The lower the time the better.

At the sake of sounding like an Uber Geek, there are 1073741824 bytes one Gigabyte but with formatting, you loose some data which is why drives and cards etc don't ever format to the size on the box.

A couple of things to consider with your card - is it formatted to the device? If not not sure how you would do that (think camera formatting there's likely to be a menu option) and / or do you have a known working SD card? Is it for SD or HD cards (yes, there's a difference) also check the data speed, a slow card might not work (HD cards tend to be faster).

Have a read of the destructions that came with the cam - it should have an indication of what to buy.

hi mate, do you mean HC? not HD? ive never heard of SDHD? Also, the Class is actually what is representative of the write speed, so Class (10) which will write at a sufficient speed for 1080 recording, will be much faster than a Class (2) which will not have a write speed sufficient to write 1080 or even 720. Class (2) is pretty much only good for basic compact cameras.

Does your Dash Cam actually work with 64GB SD cards? Majority will only accept up to 32GB.

shouldnt be using more data, there is a simple way to work that all out.

what operation system are you using?
where is it saying "connecting" a screen shot would help with this, print screen and paste into paint will sort that out.
how many devices are connected to you home network?
what is your data cap and how much are using?
have you changed the password to see if there are unwanted guests using your wifi?

throw up abit more into and ill try sort you out.

They updated

the start of it.

nope your problem is a software issue, not related at all to the tower. either the software shud be saying connected or not(or connecting) it shouldnt be saying connecting when are already connected which makes me think its software related

Have you got a lot of other devices connected to your network?

Nicco would know more than me about this but I had similar issues and we had 3 mobiles, 2 x iPads, 3 x computers and a lappy all connected and it caused issues until I removed some that we never use and the issue was resolved.

Not really, have a tablet and another pc, but nothing else was connected at the time but now that I think of it when Erin is on the tablet and on the net, I get the same problem so must be the wi-fi getting allocated the bandwidth when they are connected.

Anyway of changing who gets what bandwidth???

Ah well, I've been fiddling with the scopemeter and have worked out 80% of the functions now. Having a bit of trouble with the chinese writing on one of the functions though. I' ll have to find a way to translate it.

4bye4
25th January 2016, 02:19 PM
Assuming you can't type Chinese, you could use bable fish translater and type what you think it might be ie "focus" or whatever and get it translate from English to Chinese. Then see if the symbols match.

mudnut
25th January 2016, 05:43 PM
I've tried that, it keeps saying: "Oops, something went wrong." I have found that the first character changes when pressing the ac/dc voltage button, so I am assuming it is just a chinese indication of it.

On the PC, open file explorer, right click on the file and select properties, it should give you the file name with a file extension of .*** ( might have to left click on a details tab, but remember in previous win versions )

Example: Mudnut.pdf or Mudut.***

Whats the .*** say, as it doesn't sound like whatever you have is a pdf file

Not really true gubigfish its not just forum based

Most modern cameras have a rotation sensor which writes an orientation EXIF tag into the photo file to tell your software how to turn the photo for display. However, there are some situations in which your photo will not be rotated properly and will display sideways. Some software does not utilize the orientation tag written by the camera.

When you upload photos online, "most" sites will also read the orientation EXIF tag and display the photos properly. In those cases where it does not, you can usually find a rotation button or icon to turn the photo to the proper orientation without having to correct the rotation locally and upload the photo again. Look for a pair of arrows, or a page icon with an arrow over it. Using desktop software that handles orientation properly should eliminate any issues of photos displaying sideways after you post them online

Nah mate, I bought a power button and my old man attempted to soldier it on but he doesn't have a steady hand and there are 5 solder joints on it.

Tries some local phone and computer place but no one wanted 2 tough it.

I really miss that phone :(

Once I'm back in full time work and gotten a head a bit, I'll send it of somewhere 2 get repaired.

The other thing I was thinking of doing was just finding a second hand 1 on fleabay that has a cracked screen which will probable work out cheaper than getting it repaired

After a little test I found if I hold the phone upright the pic can be posted right way around.
If I hold the phone side ways the picture will be sideways when posted, might mean nothing

I use either a program called pdf995 or bullzip.... both are freeware, so carefull what you download and install.

Once installed, open up the document, go to the page you want, select file, then print, then instead of selecting the printer, select pdf995 of bulIzip (whichever one you installed), then select current page. Then click on print, then it should allow you to name the file and where to save it...... job done

Mate, don't waste your money. Just get a free antivirus like Avira http://www.avira.com/en/free-antivirus-windows

I've been using it for years and years and never got any viruses

Heres a comparison site for freebies http://www.trustedreviews.com/best-free-antivirus_round-up

Cheers Krisso. I'll add it to my research list.

Refuse to pay for it when i dont need it. I know what sites NOT to go to and know what emails NOT to open.
Never had an issue yet....
Acutally i did have one issue once or twice. Self inflicted... I was on some warez website hunting for a specific keygen, and knew what was going to happen. And it did. This is why i have another laptop just for this type of searching.
I do wonder sometimes whether half the viruses around are actually created by the people who make the programs to protect you from them.

I don't use it either mate, viruses don't just appear on computers, the come from user error. So long as you don't install programs that sound to good to be true you will be fine. The problem is that most people just rush through things on computers and that's how you get viruses and malware

In that case Plassy. NOD32 gets my vote. Norton, was and still is a memory hogging program. Not such a big issue if your pc has oodles of ram. But NOD is a small yet powerful program.

When you first switch on your PC do you log in? If you do log in, do you log in as administrator or admin? If you do this is bad because if any nasty stuff comes in through your browser it will install automatically and after that point the Malware owns your PC. If you log in via a user you will always get a dialog box come up to ask you if you want something installed. If something like this pops up and you are not installing anything then you know there is something trying to get admin privileges and install on your system - not good!

If you dont log on when you first turn on your PC then this is even worse again!

Strange. I never have logged in on any of my pc's or laptops and i alway s are the admin, not under a user name.
I think it just boils down to the user being more careful. And not just clicking yes to anything that comes up when you install something.
Everytime i go to my dads place, i check his browser and he's missing half the browser screen to extra search bars etc etc. I told him the prOn site to use which are safe. Maybe he's into different stuff. Lol

Explorer in the mid-naughties was the most popular browser and thats why hackers focused on it. Its ironic that as MS has improved its security it has declined in popularity. Their new browser Edge (only supported with Win10) will replace it anyway so you might as well stay with what you have got now. Just keep doing all the updates from MS and stay away from dodgy sites and you should be fine.

No mate nothing sensitive, I wouldn't ask that. So because your an administrator it gives you the ability to install programs(such as anti virus programs but also viruses). What agman was hinting at is if you use just a home users account you won't have that ability and won't be able to install the viruses, and then you will just have to log into the admin account when you want to install it

Will it cause any problems. Is it even worth it?

its fully a matter of personal choice mate. if you are happy with the way your computer is running then dont worry about it. you can even get rid of the notifier by going to add remove programs then uninstall windows updates and then uninstall update #KB30355.... i cant remember the whole number but the numbers ive given you will get you there. then you can just hide the update in windows update and you wont have to worry about those annoying popups again

NO, leave it be.

Old saying for you to heed, If it aint broke, Don't fix it.

As your machine is a work and involves networking to other machines, leave it alone. Upgrading will mean some issues with getting used to interface that is very different to Win7 and XP. MYOB will need to be the latest version as well, if on 19.7 or older then not suited for Win8 onwards.

You break it, then I will have to drive up there and give you a hard time and fix it.

As I say to any of my business clients, if you use the machine as a tool and it going down will impact your business, then leave it alone. If it is running Windows 7 or 8.1 and working fine, leave it alone.

Don't fix it if it aint broken.

If you are using it for home/personal use then do some homework on what apps/programs you will lose in the upgrade (Win 7 Media Center for example). Keep in mind, once you do, you lose a lot of control over updates (forced, heavy on internet usage) and get a metric ton of shitty apps that M$ shove down your throat.

Sounds like you need to update your password and check the outgoing server hasnt been changed/accessed also. Who is your email provider? My sister had her yahoo account compromised and they changed the outgoing mail server and started sending emails from her account to all people in here contacts asking for money. No amount of password resets would block the culprits out as they had a backdoor through that mail server. You might find if you're receiving emails from yourself you probably have yourself listed in your mail contacts.

So yeah, i would be updating your password. If you can provide more info, like who your mail provider is or even send me a copy of the email so i can have a look at it ill let you know what i think.

Where exactly does it hang ? Plugged anything new in recently like a USB device? ? If so unplug it and try...

Need more specifics mate.

Nope. It was doing this intermittently but has decided to not go at all now. The most recent thing I did was disconnect a hard drive that I took some photos and stuff off from an old lap top.

Mat try unplugging anything usb like keyboard , mouse etc and see what happens. Pretty much just leave the monitor and power plugged in.
Then boot it .

I had a chat with him last night hodge, I'm thinking is psu related or cpu has over heated, he mentioned a fan on the case spun up quite fast yesterday which points to over heating I think. What do you think hodge

Cpu will shut down after certain temp threshold is reached but it takes a fair bit to cook it completely , so i doubt it's cpu ...
The fact it's gradually got worse throughout yesterday could be a psu filling out retirement papers.
It's very hard diagnosing remotely .
Honestly could be a number of things given symptoms so far.

yep i agree. CPU was worst case scenario. PSU is the most likely culprit atm.

I just had exactly same issue, lights, fan, power buttons all working but no video out and it wouldn't post (no beeps or error codes on board). It was the CPU

What cpu are you using?

The bloody thing is like 6 months old. For the most part it is lucky to be used twice a week and only a couple of hours at a time.

How did you get to the conclusion the cpu was stuffed?

Haha yeah, it doesn't look good for them but tbh it's not like they can be selling factory seconds or anything, they are reputable brands I would just say is bad luck.

Matt I'm pretty sure he has the 8320 like you

there you go. nissannewby, they are not a unreliable device either, i have build 5 other computers with this processor and none of them have failed, those setups are used in devices that are on every business day and are used for batch photo processing. doing the minimal work like you are should be no problem at all for the little CPU Cooler. Nisshead, when you got the CPU tested did they suggest upgrading the CPU cooler or anything like that as a precautionary measure?

Msy suggested upgrading to the 8350 as for an extra $20 you get shitloads more grunt[emoji964]
I'm going to upgrade the cooler as these look small for the CPU

All good mate, just having a dig at ya, you know that[emoji109][emoji109][emoji109]

Good to hear it's under warranty whatever it is . Will be interesting to see what it was. Those cpus rarely fail just like that but you get your sour apples.
Like Rusty said they are used in Mas workstations mainly and are produced by millions for Dell etc .

Could also be bad memory ? How many memory sticks is there? Maybe try pulling out all memory sticks and then insert one by one and see how that goes ?

Matt, have you tried disconnecting the battery for 24hrs or cleaning the maf sensor??????

If your PC has more than one memory chip, I would taking all bit one out and see if it boots, if not remove and try another.....

But hey I know nothing and would of gone with your first option and burnt it

Ok. On the motherboard there should be 4 slots. Yellow in the motherboard picture below. In those slots you should have memory ticks. I'm only guessing you have 2. (you could have 1 or 4 or 3)but most commonly 2 as I don't know how much memory you have.

They should look like the green sticks in the other picture.

Pull the sticks out by unlatched the tabs on the side, and pull all sticks out. Then insert one stick and try and PC, if it fails, take that stick out and try the other, if it fails as well , well then highly unlikely it is the memory sticks rooted. But at least that is an easy elimination.

Yeah mine look a little flasher than that. Removing the second one has resulted in the cpu fan ramping up

But still nothing.

Here is hoping you had the PC off when taking the sticks out lol. Or you mean it span quicker without the "said" stick ?
