The Boker came from QLD and the Jeep from NSW.

I need to do some research as to whether these can be imported as I have found, by accident, a supplier / manufacturer of these that I can get in bulk amounts.

I would love a Trakker knife, especially the U.S. Military variant that is both a liner lock and fixed blade all in one, can't justify paying between $350-400 on it though

If anyone has an Auto Bahn near them at all, could they keep an eye for these rescue knives and let me know please? Grubs stole mine from the troll, still trying to work out all the gear stolen.

Can't buy them online from them and their the only suppliers I could find, the distributors require a trading company account to be set up to purchase directly from them which I am not prepared to do.

Never owned or used a Swiss card, I have a heap of the flat metal 11 in 1 cards that I have put in different grab bags and pouches including both mine and munchkins webbing.

I have a couple of different Swiss Tech items, some are really good and others are crap, the pocket led torch / lantern has the potential to be a good little piece but falls short on being reliable, constantly cuts out and turns off.

Interesting threedogs, and it begs the question - what came first, the cork or the cork screw? I can just imagine some silly bastard banging a cork in a bottle and going "look i have found a great way to seal a bottle" and his mate next to him looking up from warm beer and going "well done...but how are you going to get it out?"

The earliest glass bottle is around 1660 -1670 before that they used
jars and wooden casks. I love my antiques

The early glass bottles were black and onion shaped and had
a losenge on the side with your name and date on it, you had to
snap the top off the bottle to pour any wine or , whatever.
It is also where the term "Its got my name on it" comes from. lol
These bottles are always damaged around the top. If no damage is found
I'd be wary. This is a great example from 1730

There should be a small stand inside the box for those little "letter openers". I know there was one in the Final Fantasy series that came out years ago, there not very big and basically a desktop display set.

Shouldn't be too hard to make up a nice wood grain stand and have the blades in a fan shape

Never underestimate the power of the tap, let it flow through you.

These guys came in yesterday, the Quicksilver tanto bowie isn't to bad and a fairly good size overall and was surprised to see that Frost Cutlery make the Quicksilver brand of knives, personally could be a bit heavier but the sheath is 1 of the worst crappy nylon sheathes I have seen as it's not long enough and is also the wrong as its for a straight blade knife and not a curved blade. I can see it tearing through over time.

The Frost Muela Bowie has a good weight and feel to it but could be a bit better in its design as the spine has a fake saw back for looks only, has the rear lashing / tie point on the spine but the handle scales are not designed to hold a pole properly for use as a spear and the base of the blade that is recessed and squared off could be shorter to allow for a slightly longer edge. The sheath is made of the ballistic nylon and not the standard version and allows for multiple ways of carrying like standard belt, strapped to the leg, horizontal waist carry, strapped to a pack or webbing strap either right way up or upside down and also over shoulder diagonal carry across the chest or back. It also has a small pouch on the front for a stone or small kit.

I must admit, modular ability of the sheath is well thought out and is a great platform for other modular sheath designs, this reminds me that I need to find a webpage I came across for a custom sheath maker in the U.S. who has incorporated the Kydex / modular / Molle system into the leather sheathes he makes that can have pouches, flint stick loops and other items swapped on and off as needed depending on what wearer was doing / going.

Also had a different Colombia knife delivered, another 1 of my $3.00 eBay wins. Quite like this 1 as it has a good weight to it, full tang and nice upswept blade and some nice etching on the bolsters, the blade could be just a smidge shorter and would be perfect.

Again it came with another crappy sheath.

Quickly called into Kmart last night with the missus and stumbled across a new multi-tool that has just been released by Jackeroo for $12.

Family basic but has a standard knife, saw blade, file, flat tip and Phillips screwdrivers and a combo axe / mallet head.

Curiosity got the better of me so I bought 2 of them, 1 for me and 1 for munchkin to put in his pack when he goes out scrub.

Surprisingly sturdy with a bit of weight for a small item, you won't be able to cut larger stuff but at a pinch when it hits the fan you could cut through 2-3" branches. Knife blade is reasonably sharp out of the pack but needs finishing but axe head is pretty blunt and needs finishing.

Just typed in Southern leather Solutions for a look.
You do some awesome work my friend, noticed Kallen had an arm guard made as well
WOW social media , everyone knows hey, the Bull rifle scabbard looked the goods too.
Shame some PPL dont want to pay for quality leather work, let them see how much it will cost for the same
made elsewhere. Quality will last, crap doesn't. Im more than happy to save for a leather product opposed to a vynl
replicate. Keep up the good work.

5th November 2015, 12:22 AM
Here is a photo of the bow drill set. the drill, bored and pivot block are made from the above piece of downy Birch (very smiler to silver but darker and furry on the underside of leaves)
i used paracord on the bow:( but i am making some stinging natal cord to use instead which would mean i can make fire with just a knife, i used ear wax on the pivot of the pivot block and i used a fungi as tinder which when lit with a tiny ember terns into a hot col.

Yes Tops knives are great for hard use.

Some ram horn scales arrived from the UK,
as you can see plenty of natural scales ranging from black and white streaky buffalo
to the jigged buff [black ribbed] then the butterscotch horn and natural ram horn.
Do have some rose wood scales .
Also next time up the Murray Im gunna cut a knob off a river red gum
and see how they look. lol

Onkey
6th November 2015, 11:06 PM
Yes some make the turning stick (drill) out of harder wood then the stick with the holes in, they do this to increase the usage of the difficult to make drill and just replace the wood with the holes in. You don't want to use resinous wood like pine because the resin acts as a lubricant.
You want the pivot block (handle) to be a hard wood or even a rock, but i made it all from the one type of wood and it worked well.

threedogs
7th November 2015, 06:45 AM

These arrived today, the smaller one reminds me of a Gerber Myth,
the larger one is a horse, happy with both , crappy nylon sheaths let both down.
Not entirely sure a leather sheath would enhance them .
Both sharp and ready to go. The bottom one could easily
grow on you its a fair bit of steel lol

I thought it was a double up with this middle knife but it dwarfs it side by side.
Loving the saw blade hatchett to, too many ideas now

Nice, I new that option was coming from Buck Knives but wasn't aware it had been bought in yet.

The Tanto style knife you just got (SR knifes) is based off the Trakker style blades.

I did just get the MTech Call of Duty "Ghost" knife, that's 1 hell of a sturdy blade, full tang and around 4 mm thick.

Also got the Gerber "Strong Arm" knife come in the other day, not quite as heavy as my LMFII but just as good.

Will put up some pics shortly [emoji12][emoji12]

Gerber do a Bear Grylls version that is a smaller version of the LMFII which may be better for you, if you go back through this thread, I posted up comparison pics of both of them side by side.

@TD the blank was from Wholesale Earth Knife Supply in the US.

Will be going wood scales more than likely but sure yet, will have a look and see what Dean has available as he's now stocking knife making gear.

This would be an ideal Farrier anvil.

I got the log from the council when they were cutting down some big gum trees,
Ive dribbled sump oil into it to stop any rot and sump oil is great if you want to "black"
some steel a great rust proof finish,. It now has hoops to hold a few hammers.
Height is make a fist and that the height of the anvil easy as eh
The iron loops holding the anvil down are "U" bolts off a leaf sprung 4x4 lol

I posted a slightly different version of this knife earlier in the thread and it rocks, very tough, sturdy knife. Am keen on getting this version as well.

The baby "chisel" Tanto is a good size as either a back up knife or for an EDC / Survival / Bug Out kit due to its size, full tang for strength and can be used for multiple purposes.

I'm still waiting for mine to be delivered and will do a test run on it.

In essence I don't really need it at the moment mate. Still have one of them but was thinking I'd get a spare or two if I could find them knowing that they aren't being made any more. It's one (of the many I own) that I'd hate to be without, but I also don't want to sit it on a shelf and not use it just so I can keep it around if you know what I mean? [emoji4]

Took the plunge and ordered 1 of the little tantos that TD posted earlier and was just delivered.

Very sturdy little knife and reasonably sharp out of the box but does need finishing, damn near 5mm thick across the spine and the scales are pretty good though a bit thick to be fully comfortable but they can be removed and the leather sheath is pretty good for a cheapie.

Only major downside is that it's a chisel blade instead of hollow ground both sides.

Dont worry mate just a bit quiet, thats all. I think that style blade would have some advantages over
a normal type blade.

Well decided to start finishing a few blanks I have plus one Im doing from scratch.
The pic is of a Seki city drop point I made for Simon of 4WDTV fame,
I have 2 blanks and plenty of scales to mix and match, Simons one has streaky Buff scales
and the pins are from a hinge up at Qantas. ha ha you pic what plane and what hinge.
Thats the easy bit. the 2nd one Im dying to finish is my Damascus clip point Buck 110 folder copy
but with a fixed blade, I have most parts cut ready to fix. I'll also be doing a bit of file work on the spine.
This fixed Buck 110 has been on the back burner for quite a while now so time to knock it out of the park, lol
The bone and red gum handles are from 2 fillet knives I made a while back

One thing Id do in hindsight on that redgum handle is not follow the blade down
but to finish it with a circle a lot better to look at IMO, but that was one of the first
knives I made and having a redgum sheath as well its well special to me.. Might
get you to post that sheath back if thats ok. will get some material out and take
a pic so ppl here can have some imput on how it will look.
That bone fillet knife I scrimshawed a fish on it with an engineers scriber and rubbed
some ash into it actually came up alright but I dont have pics , it was a gift to a mate.

Hi Jase I know you're lurking in the back ground,
anyway I logged into a mob in the States called IMA-USA
and if you remember your Bayonet that had a bit of age about it.
Well I think I have some info on it, Could it possibly be a Gurkha east
india Co. Brown Bess Musket socket bayonet.
Its very similar to your one, price was $395 US.
Trust things are going well after the OP,

Still floating around, doing pretty well after the Op.

Last few days a bit rough with a pinched muscle in my back but start hydro Thursday.

Been very low key and basically haven't touched any LW recently except for Burke's sheath.

From memory with what I've found is that it's a Brown Bess musket from the late 1890's but an NZ issue.

The old man bought it back from NZ from a dealer, will look for markings again as they're pretty faint last time I checked.

Did get given another bayonet last month that I've not begun to research yet but dad thinks it's possibly Belgian.

I did scoop up a Colt last month as well as there's been a few articles recently that they're moving away from knives

Blade length is 29.5cm and around 43cm overall, it's a heavy knife and more a show piece but still a functional blade. Not 1 I'd walk through the scrub carrying as there are better alternatives.
