TD42 Supercharger

Hi,

I'm by no means mechanical but was told many years ago that supercharger is more efficient than a turbo by miles because it's belt driven not relying on revs and exhaust flow to be high, and better quality air. So I'm wondering if that's actually true and if anyone has done a TD42 conversion?

Not really true.
Yes a s/c goes by rpm but this would all depend on what size charger you have, same goes for turbo's. A lot of TD42 turbos are for lower to mid range rpm and run out of puff toward the mid to higher rev range. Where my turbo is opposite, have not a lot down low but mid to top end is ace, I can hold max boost at 4000rpm if I wanted too. Different supercharger sizes would react and perform different to each other.

Also with a supercharger, you are stealing power your engine produces to drive the supercharger. So your losing some power to gain more power, a turbo is only run by waste your engine produces, its not stealing any power at all.

i guess there is benefits of using a supercharger over a turbo, but that would be application dependent, different for every vehicle.
