ARB Rear bar

Hi gents,

I have an ARB Rear bar with dual wheel carrier. The swing arms have gotten pretty sloppy over the years and I'd say the bearings need replacing. Does anyone know what's involved in getting to the pivot bolts and replacing the bearings? Are the bearings pressed?

Can you post up a photo or two? If they are running a rotary style bearing with balls or needles, then your issue will be either the bearing has collapsed or the shaft has corroded and reduced in diameter, OR if its a bronze or sinterd bush, it will be a push out job. The bush to tube fit is probably going to be tight as typically they would run a reamer thru the bush after it is inserted into the tube - well thats the way I would do it. You will be lucky to get an 'out of the box' solution if its a bush I would think, but with some monkey work you could get there with patience.

Yeah mate definitely, sorry if my photos are of no help. I'm not sure on removing the trim the covers the top of the pivot bolt, and whether it's much of a mess to get it off

Is there a nut or bolt head on the underside of the pivot point? I am sure you could get an answer from ARB. Looking at the 'thin/skinny' top plate I am guessing the pivot is bolted in. The top face may have a countersink screw into a shaft? The trims probably going to have to come off - ring ARB first for advice - thats what I would do.

Yeah I did give ARB a call and they told me the nut on the bottom is welded so only need access to the top. They just wanted me to bring it in and charge 5 hours labour to do both arms, citing the time taken was removing the trims, but I don't see how hard that could be. Do you know what's involved?

Sorry Brad, I don't. There is bound to be someone pop up here with the answer. Give it a couple of days them simply re-post with a 'bump' after the last post. Sounds to me like they are using a bolt for the axle and the hard 'bearing' has been knocking a dent into it from vibration. The time may be to remove the bolt x 2 reweld - just guessing again. If its a different assy I think perhaps the 5hrs is worth it to get it returned to factory new. What is their hourly rate?

Might be of some use. Parts list shows 10 nyloc m6 nuts holding them on so I would assume 5 a side. The instructions talk about fitting them from underneath... The urethane end covers that is.
