I bought an unlocked 2nd hand Galaxy S5 from cash converters for $180 in as new condition.
I like the S5 because it's waterproof and has a replaceable battery. The batteries do wear out after a year or so. A common complaint from high end phone consumers is that after a couple of years it's no longer holding charge .... so they need to upgrade to another $1500 phone
You can actually get rebuild kits from ebay for around $50 with a replacement battery and the special tools required to dismantle the phone, often it involves heating the phone up gently to unstick the glue which holds it together and then prying it apart with thin pick tools. It can be done, if you're determined. My mother has replaced the battery in her iphone 3 times.

Thanks mate. Yeah I tend to buy phones that you can replace batteries too. Dont like being sucked in to sealed units where you either have to become a phone mechanic as you said, or just replace after a year or two.

For sure mate, that's very lowbrow. If buying a Nokia I would have said the 5.1 would the the lowest I would go, I had seen them at aldi for $200 a while back. So are you looking for another phone? Or just trying to fix your paper weight? Sorry if you've said so, I've just briefly read about your issues.

Ideally I'd like to have the speaker in the LG replaced. Have read online that software glitch has caused this problem also, so will try a system reset first.

To be honest I didn't want to spend approx $80 to get it done (verbal quote from a phone repairer) but seeing how bad my choice of replacement was I'm now seriously considering it. Phone repairer said minimum $80 if spare parts were available.
