My 2001 ZD30 has an issue and I need some guidance...
This scenario usually only occurs at a traffic light stop. At idle it will cough, pump out a single puff of black diesel smoke and the rev counter goes to zero (engine returns to normal idle instantaneously). If it's in drive while this occurs it leaps forward momentarily as if the throttle has been advanced. The rev counter remains at zero until I rev it. The event triggers an amber engine warning light that extinguishes after a shut down. I don't have access to a diagnostic tool to plug into the Patrol...does it sound like an intermittent sensor issue?
There use to be a few real smart guys on here, but I think there gone now days. Got an issue myself, but no ones forthcoming with any ideas.
Good luck mate.

G’day Mick mate!
Any chance your times of old experienced on here could possibly help old mate above?
EDIT: Off an icrapple phone ‘mega-search’ function is hard through legends ages!
I think its best to get a diagnostic check mate. Guessing with these motors, is just, guessing. It could be a dodgy fuel filter, fuel filter head, air in the fuel system, shitty injectors etc etc.
What have you done to try to resolve this issue?
Hey MB, no good me offering ideas, nothing is as it seems with the ZD. I gave the 3.0 to the Mrs when move to the NT, had myself a 42td. Don’t get me wrong, I meant know disrespect to any one, but there was a couple of fellas who seemed to know more than us back yarders. Like the bloke who helped me with my 4.2 nats issue. This poor fella is suffering, and it could be any number of issues. Actually, mudski below rings a bell.
Regards Mick.
Hi Beesee , frustrating, I know only too well
Diagnostics,,,,not sure so be carefull,, someone here correct me if im wrong
With ign. turned on find diag. plug. Using a thin wire short out the to connections at either end of the plug ,on the bottom row. I think #1 and #8 . Short out for 2 seconds.
Have a look at eng. warning light sort of morse code. write it down.
Search fault codes on this site
Good luck
