Thanks Darren, I guess this stands the same for front axles as rears - I could leave busted axle in place, unlock front hubs, remove driveshaft so low range 2wd with rear locker might be possible?

Also so what's the recommended inspection for rear earnings? Say I was preparing for a big trip with a bit of weight on board- sort of like I have now- is it simply replace? Or what happens if they fail in the field- I carry spares but can they be swapped over on the side of a hill or road? What's would I need?
