I've got to master my eating cycle. I'm starting to hit the gym and the treadmill and today, I nearly ate the fridge out.

All healthy stuff, but just got to work out when to eat before and after a workout.

    BALANCE....apparently. lol

Any help from you guru's would be appreciated.

More important to eat prior to a workout - reason for this (depending on the duration) is the body will immediately look for a nutrition source - generally the first thing attacked is the free form glycogen stores in your liver - from there the body will take the path of least resistance and convert protein to sugar before it will look to long term fat stores (that starts after about 45 minutes). The problem with going for protein first if you haven't eaten is that the easiest source of protein to convert is muscle tissue (no sh!t) and what you end up with is muscle deterioration/reduction (even if doing weights!!) and no use of fat stores. You want a good feed of protein about 30 minutes prior to training (about 30+ grams as this is about the maximum the body can assimilate and you will simply 'expel' the rest). Your metabolic rate increases whilst training and again dependent on the person and the duration of the session, you'll continue to burn at a high rate for sometime after training - this is where you want your body to go to the fat stores and not new protein/nutrition provided by eating within an hour or so after you finish.

    With me?

Absolutely and even more so for aerobic activity like running - weights are anaerobic and actually strengthens muscle predominantly from 'breaking' the muscle fibrils as you workout (that's why you are sore the next day). When the fibrili mend themselves, they are actually stronger and thats what builds muscle bulk - the body uses protein and anaboles (spelling?) from the blood to repair the tissue and that's why you need protein for weights (and anaboles are the bodies natural body building amino acid and this is where the term 'anabolic' comes from in reference to steroids!!!).

Keep an eye on your tread mill. I have to spray stuff under the mat every few months. I forgot and nearly burnt the motor out. Place stunk of burnt wiring, but it came good after a soaking.

Google the brand and they might tell you how to maintain it.
