Haha, we don't have any young kids on our street currently, bloody lot of cats though and for some reason they love our back yard.
Have caught them getting into the bin by the BBQ and leaving a mess and they shit everyware.
My dog is 14 and can't be bothered chassing them any more.
As much as I hate them I would not really kill someones pet.

Don't get me started on cats!! This place is crawling with ferals that come from town and the forest. We often find the remains of native birds in the paddocks. Lead Aspros do the trick.
My advice is: not to follow my advice.
Good luck with that.
There are more feral cats than people in Australia. It's bit too late to ban them.
More practical idea is to pass laws to issue hefty fines to people who let them out after dark and people who abandon them.
Yes, it should be illegal to own a cat without desexing & registering them.
My cat(s) had no chance of killing anything native 'cos it stays indoors.
Cats are not the problem, people are.

+1 @dom14
Had the irony of a neighbour saving a cat from euthanasia at the local pound, only to let it wander free. Found it hunting the native birds in our backyard - so how many animals did that person actually save???
Makes them feel good I 'spose as long as they don't let themselves see the 'externalities'...

Yes, I see. It comes back to what I was referring to in my previous comment. Cats are not the problem, people are.
If we can get our polies to pass tough laws to prevent such imbecile behaviour by good-hearted people, that will be a good start.
Save a cat/dog from death row in the pound by all means. It is a humane thing what makes us human(probably).
But, keep them indoors or contain in area where they can't roam around and slaughter native wildlife if they are allowed outside.
Both are easily doable.
Feral animal problem is a huge problem in Australia. Cats are just the tip of the iceberg.
I don't see any chance of us fixing the problem.
We are too busy with our jobs, families, cars, etc etc.
