Wellllll. Just after this post I had this motor on the stand and started tearing it down. the timing case behind the water pump looked amazing. There was a little bit of gunk in the galleries, but I assume it had been sitting. No big deal.
The turbo looked new and in good nick. Rocker assembly looked good. Everything up top looked good
Flipped it over to pull the sump off, and the bores looked good. But I notice the smell of the oil it wasn't right, then I notice some blue heat marks on the crank next to main cap 3. More heat marks next to the caps on cylinder 1, 4 and 6. Then looked at the big ends and they have blue marks on them aswell. So I get a magnet and wipe is around the sump and pulled up some swarf, decent pieces. Get onto the mob that sold the motor to me and sent some pics. They offered to replace or refund without hassle which is good. Then they asked if I could pull a main cap off and send through some pictures. The cap I pulled off had had some thing decent go through it. Probably what I pulled from the sump. The crank journal had some heat discolouration too. That was straw coloured.
I heard this Motor run before I bought it and it really did sell itself. It sounded sweet so I thought I was onto a winner. But no....not this one. Lucky I did have a good look at because today I took it back and they had another one there with the sump and a cap off already. It was in better nick than the first one, a bit second hand, but in reality what you would expect from a second hand engine. I was also reimbursed some money to cover replacing bearings on this motor they aren't really bad, you could run it for a long time if wanted to but I'm going to carry on with mods so new bearings would be good.
