Assistance required urgently

I thought this morning my start battery had expired so I ripped out the multi meter to check for charge.
Its not charging, so I removed the alternator and noticed the 2 wires that plug into the alternator
were broken. Any ideas how i can repair this I need the patrol going for appointments etc.
NOTE there is not enough wire to "re join" them

I remember mine doing the exact same thing. Same spot too. The wires were flush with the plug. I managed to remove enough of the wire shield and soldered a short length of wire onto the broken off wires in the plug, then soldered the new wires into the loom. I also used liquid electrical tape too in the plug end to seal it up.
It was fiddly but certainly doable.

@mudski yeah I only had about 4mm if that but Ive managed to do the same as you did.
Happy with the result but Im passing out from the pain Ive inflcted on my self.
Im grabbing a handfull of meds and having a rest, getting too old for this shite,
Got a great price on an AC delco seal start battery to bummer.

Not 100% sure that was the problem so Im swapping out the alternator for a new one.
Time will tell its ready to be put back together, but too sore so Ill tackle that tomorrow, lol

Get an upgrade alternator from auto 8 , great warranty ( if you keep the receipt) big boost in amps over standard oem.
I'm lucky there based in Wangaratta so I can get one same day .

Sorry just realised you have a GU , just replaced the GU one as well , auto 8 have Bosch units cheap as chips and still good warranty .
I spent $500+ trying to find out what was making fan belt squeal, in the end it was alternator clutch , should have gone to my regular mechanic but he was flooded in at the time .
From memory alternator was around $265 .

$265 was about what I paid, pretty sure it was from Auto8,
no idea what out put will it be on the alternator?

the back of that plug looks exposed so to seal it would help lots

remove it

yeah Jaycar sell it, messy stuff and impossible to clean off. I have only used it once and thought id just put it on then cut the excess off and clean it up later!... Good luck with that!


If there is nothing wrong with your Alternator any Auto Elec should be able to put new leads on it for you mate.
