Hi everyone! New to the forum and a happy owner of a very rust td42 diesel patrol.
I plan to turbo it within the next few weeks but am having troubles choosing a turbo.
I'm in a tight budget. Looking for either a second hand turbo or an eBay turbo.
Can anyone recommend a size or any experience using a turbo from another vehicle? I would love boost around 1100-1500 I really!
I know you can buy a T3/t4 turbo and manifold from eBay for around $450 but as far as I have read they don't come on until around 2000 - being my daily drive it would be painful to live with !
Fuel reg is for petrols..... you need to retune or modify your injector pump to achieve your desired power levels. The ebay turbos are pretty good but there is no qc so inspect it very carefully if you get one. But id suggest just saving up the extra 1500 and call matt at ufi for a turbo.
The only manifolds on ebay i would get is an oem one or a dts one. Heard to many stories of those cheap manifolds warping too easy.
Turbos is a hard one when on a budget.
The Kawabunga ones would be the only turbo id chose if on a budget.
Have you looked at GCG Turbos website?
Its doable but honestly send it to a shop as they have all th r special tools and most importantly the knowledge and experience to make sure its done correctly. I recommend diesel central in gravemere
Yes ive rebuilt a few injector pumps, an my advice is don't do it. For starters you need the correct tools and gauges and that alone is more expensive then sending it away to get done. Then you need a clean room, access to custom made cam plates etc, and not to be offensive but if your asking about rising rate fuel regs in a mech diesel then I dont think you have the knowledge and experience to build a custom pump. Also what are you chasing? A standard 10mm pump will give great results for the average person, and if your looking around 130mark just buy a standard 11mm pump which have been coming down in price since the amount of shops now selling bigger custom pumps. The key when building these engines is to have a HP goal, as the parts you buy will depend on that and the price :P
OOO and unless you have an auto you will find it very hard for any turbo to be on full boost at 1100-1500, You will need to spend up on a UFI turbo or similar to achieve boost at 1800+
I will highly recommend you save your money and buy something decent. A ufi 16g will see good response early and will be a nice match to a fresh 11mm pump.
I know of a turbo that makes real good boost and volume at 1500rpm but it will set you back around the 3k mark for it and parts required to fit it.
