I've done some calling around today, there's a place in Melbourne called Duggan Balancing who can lightening the flywheel by 2kg, balance the pressure plate and flywheel and machine it for $310. Does that seem like a good deal? This new clutch is quickly getting expensive..

Sounds about right. Usually about 80-120 for machining, around 120 for balancing then the labour to take they weight off.

Lightening is somewhat of a necessity as you are approaching crank snapping territory. Not all break but taking these preventative measures does help with reliability.

Mine cost me 250 for machining by one of the local fitter/turners who works a partical board plant, the balancing was done elsewhere with the engine, so I dont know what the flywheel cost alone.

Great thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Looks like I'll be up for around 2k fitted. Worth it in the long run though.

    Definitely!

Just for reference, NPC Viper & flywheel is $1452 delivered to Melbourne. He said I would also need to upgrade to a GU master cylinder & that it's a standard weight flywheel. I enquired about the 6x6 and he said it's good for about 600nm.

    UFI it is!

To add to this reference you can just buy the viper clutch and have your flywheel drilled to suit.

$1600 to do a clutch? Fark, is that about normal?

We did BA's over a weekend back when he was still running the TB and all it cost was the clutch and a loan of a transmission jack.

Considering in this instance the clutch is $850 by itself. Its normally around 600 for labour to do the clutch. Then extras like rear main seal, flywheel facing etc.
