I know it has to be mineral low ash. Wouldn't mind trying it on the 4.2
I use Castrol Activ 2T, bought 2 x 4 litres when it was on special at Repco before Christmas 2014. it was $31.99 for 4 litres then. Not precious about the brand though, if there is a cheaper mineral 2t for air cooled engines which costs less when I next need to buy some, I'll get that. Have always run it at 200:1 but might try 300:1 to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks Cuppa. So I will go and grab a bottle and give it a shot.
I already use the flash lube diesel conditioner, so might skip that for a bit to see results of 2T.

Well it didn't take too long!
    13 k run home day 1, meh!
    In to work yesterday, meh!
Going home yesterday and the engine definitely "sounded" quieter.
I assume that's the injector knock lessening?
Startup this morning was a revelation. Nil exhaust smoke and a smoother cold idle!
Into work, can't say that it was more responsive or "drove better" but tacho did seem to be a needle width lower at usual run speeds.
Now I'm keen to see if the economy improves off this tank.
So the upshot is. Definitely some improvement.

Will post more when I know more!

    Cheers all!

OK a day and about 50km after filling up the main tank 90l and adding around 400 ml of 2t.
She is definitely a quieter kitten now. Definitely noticed this mornings first few Cold minutes she lost that top end of the typical " taka taka taka taka" diesel sound. Sounded smoother if you will...
Biggest difference I noticed was through Mc drive thru . Since it's kind of like a sound tunnel I got to hear all the different sounds bouncing around and she's 100% quieter than usual !
