Hi All
I have just done 3800km from NSW to Tassie and back over 16 days. I have a GU 3.0ltr CRD. Around 5 days ago the belt started screaming at 2000 to 2500 rpm no squeeling above or below this range. Any ideas as to what causes this?

Belt tensioner...?

Worn belt
Belt tensioner
Alternator Sprag Clutch
A/C clutch
If you replace the belt use a genuine one as most aftermarket ones will squeal from new

Thanks Guys. Looks like a tension wheel bearing. The only one that has excessive play..
Unfortunately, it does rather sound like it could be an exhaust manifold leak, which is one thing the CRDs are prone for....
I just replaced my belt tensioner and mine would only squeal when cold, and would then go away ... I am not saying yours cant be different, as in some cases the manifold exhaust leak only happens when cold too.
PS: Doesnt hurt to have a spare tensioner anyway, as they are a known fail point

You can replace the stuffed bearing with this one, NTN-WC 87503
general rule of thumb is use OE belts

04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there
Righto guys. Replaced tensioner and belt. Noise still there..😬. Will the exhaust manifold leak only make a noise at a certain RPM? The noise only occurs at around 2000 rpm then stops at 3000.
You may find that you have a leaking intercooler. I had cleaned mine this arvo and as soon as I started the car to drive off, the high pitched squeal began between the rev range that you stated before... and no, the belts weren't squealing previously. Search on the other threads of how to fix this. Or repalce the intercooler with another (bigger, bettter, more expensive) unit!

Sounds to be a split egr pipe i reckon. Fairly common for this on the CRD's.
Mine squeals for the first 30 seconds while accelerating then stops. Have replaced the belt and tensioner. If I stop for ten minutes and start up again it'll do it for 10 seconds before it stops
