    Boost on RD28Ti 1999 GU

After replacing my turbo (still original size), I finally fitted up my boost controller to the my 99 GU. Prior to the controller, my boost was sitting nice and even at 5psi crusing in 5th @100kmh, and it would peak at 9.5-10psi under full load. Using the controller from Mudski, I wound the controller to it's 1/2-way setting and installed it. Cruising now in 5th @100kmh it sits around 8psi (give or take a little), medium load/acceleration it jumps right away to 10-11psi, and under full load climbing a hill it peaked at 15psi.

Are these parameters safe for extended use with the RD28Ti? What would be some of the downsides to running increased boost over long periods of time? The Patrol definitely seems a bit more responsive of the start - it could easily break traction at the rear wheels when accelerating empty from a dead stop. I know I haven't cranked up the boost a whole lot. I don't want a race car, just a bit more acceleration and power to make it easier to drive.

Yeah im not sure on this mate but i think your pretty much on the money with your settings.
I did read somewhere though that some were getting around 10psi at cruise speeds. Not sure what their max is though...

I've seem 10psi cruising on others posts, but i think they were for a ZD30. Could be mistaken, but I'm pleased with what I have now. Will run it a while and see how it does. Won't reach cruising speeds much this next trip, as it will be slow crawling through the woods on the winter road.

Hi Matt,, that 10 psi figure would be a rule of thumb number for the ZD30 motor.
Did you buy a needle valve and EGR plate as well
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there

No needle valve needed for the RD28Ti, but yes, the EGR is blocked as well and the brittle inlet butterfly removed.

Your figures are fine mate. Just keep an eye on the exhaust gas temperature. Stick to about 500 degrees c as a limit.

I assume this is post-turbo reading? That would make the actual closer to 750C? Mine is installed post-turbo, so I watch it and always add 250C to get the real temp.
