For clay bar, you need to use a lubricant. You can use one of those quick detailer sprays, or 50/50 metho/water or just soapy water.
Spray on lubricant, working in a foot square area, rub clay on car, in a wave style fashion. Keep turning the bit of clay so that you are using a clean bit constantly. Then wipe the area clean with a micro fiber cloth. Repeat if you missed bits.
You can actually feel how much smother the areas you have done are. Make a few passes on each area to get the best results (spray clay a few times then clean just once)

I'll give it a go later sound very labour intensive,
have you measured how many square feet are on a patrol lol
this wave action is it pressing with the ball of your palm
sort of like kneading dough

Lots of square feet. Fortunately the body of the patrol is a decent amount away from the wheels so not a whole lot of grime gets on the paint. Try doing a normal car, heaps of crap all over the paint from the wheels.
I use a sanding/kneading movement. More of a knead on stubborn spots.
Grab a chair and park in the shade, get your favorite drink and take your time. Pack a small esky with drinks for less trips inside.

This is what Ive used or will use, is the price right ?
so its worth doing once a year with a thorough detail
Plus how do you remove car polish from bits like the snorkle and door handles
Ive have the car wash nozzle right up against the marks and they just stay there
plus need to find a product that actually works on the black plastic bits, there was a product on TV a while ago
but Ive forgotten its name, ,,,,restore???????????

I'm a big believer you get what you pay for, I want a good paint job on my car, I buy good products. Fwiw a 3m brand clay bar is only $35.
The polish is easy, don't get it on there in the first place haha sorry couldn't resist. But you can get stuff called 'back to black' or 'trim restore' that works wonders. Is great stuff to keep all of your flares looking tip top and stops them going brittle.

Got it started and running in -15C temps and drove it around the city for a good 5 hours on new winter tires.

Finally shifted my UHF mike to the left side of the centre facia,
just below the double din head unit.
This was acheived using a RJ 45 extension wire/cord,
