The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
WARNING: Towballs used for recoveries can, and do kill people and damage property.
Hmm, good luck with the quack tomorrow John.
I got a text photo from my missus today showing a puddle on the floor. "how'd that get there I ask?" Next photo came through was a wet spot on the ceiling... Bugger, something else to fix![]()

Taking your car to the workshop, leaving it there all day, picking it up, paying for some work (albeit not a huge amount), and the problem has not been fixed, I cannot state in forum friendly language how annoying it is... I am really OCD about stuff being 100% with my vehicle, and it is not 100% right now.
This is not cool, years ago I have sold a few vehicles when I couldn't get an issue sorted out, and I do not under any circumstances want to sell my truck. I do however want the problem sorted. I was ok waiting for a time for it to be booked in and sorted, but now that the date has been and gone and the problem isn't fixed I am not in a mood for the waiting game!
Sorry, I know others have bigger problems, but this thread is about what has made us angry, and for me today, that's it 😡
93 GQ wagon, RB30, extractors, 2 inch tough dog lift, 5 spd, A/T KO2 32's, steel winch bar, rated recovery points, red arc dual battery set up, rhino roof racks, UHF etc etc. Slow and steady might not win the race but it gets me there eventually...
I asked after 10 years for another mattress, but they say its too old and should be changed every 7 years
no one told me that.
I only need a mattress as I have a great looking bed.
ATM its a KingKoil and very firm which I needed after the first op
I dont need that now,

Gday Rod, my truck has started making a growling / rattling type of noise when 4 high is selected, starts at about 40 ks and gets worse with more speed, I've got a thread called new noise in 4wd about it. Started after a day on the tracks last weekend, I can't figure out what it is and I'm not keen to just start replacing bits in the hope of finding it, I find that way gets expensive...

Patrol'n (6th November 2015)
Yep, been taking my cars to him for a long time, as have all the family. He looked at both sides, although not sure about looking past the bearings, I'm going to chat to him this morning about it and see what we can work out, he's a good mechanic so I'm sure we'll get it sorted, just that we've got more trips planned shortly and I don't want an offroad repair that could have been done in a workshop or in my driveway. (I have a recurring moment of paranoia where I think about being stuck below a high tide line and losing drive).... Don't want to try and make my patrol a submarine!

Ok so something you can do is remove the front drive shaft and go for a drive.. lock hubs in and leave in 2wd. If noise still there it's diff related.
If no noise flick to open diffs and engage 4H. If noise starts it's transfer gear box related..
If the noise dissappear completely it's the uni joints on the drive shaft..
Cheers
