    Wheel swap?

    Hi all

I have a 1998 GU 2.8 shortie with standard alloys with Cooper S/T Maxx tyres. I've just become the proud owner of a 2003 GU 4.8 longie with modular steels and the same tyres.

Will the wheels fit from one to the other? I believe the 4.8 discs are bigger, but not sure if the 2.8 wheels will still fit?

    Thanks

    Nick

If the rims are 15in, then no they wont fit. Pretty sure 16s will , but happy to be corrected

They are both 16's but wasn't sure if there was enough room on the 2.8 alloys for the bigger 4.8 discs. Thanks.

sounds like you have your problem sorted mate. bit of trivia, in Australia we never got the GU shorties although we have the GQ Shorties. Some people have imported the GU's though, at great expense! they are highly sought after and liked here in Australia! Alitis007 is a BIG fan of them.

Yep, likewise we never got the 4.8. Mine is an Aussie import and as far as I know, the only one in the UK. So I'll be picking your brains a fair bit I guess.

My Shortie will be up for sale shortly, so if anyone is interested, let me know!

    Cheers

haha well the reason they are rare as hens teeth is the road regs in australia make it damm near impossible to get them in. you need to pay ridiculous import fees and then have the car engineered as roadworthy which isnt easy or cheap (even if the car is in mint condition). the most sought after patrol is the TD42 GU, did you guys get those or just the RD28 like your shorty? Petrol is too expensive in australia and our country is too big for them to be useful for anything but a day tripper.

Ha ha... Yeah we're pay the equivalent of around 235 cents per litre over here with only a few cents difference between petrol and diesel. I believe you guys pay around 135? Over in France it's around 165 so a fair bit cheaper. I'm definitely going to notice going from a 2.8 to a 4.8! I must be mad! I would be ecstatic if I were paying Aussie prices!

Over here unfortunately we only get two engines, the 2.8 on the older models, up to about 1999, and then after that there is a choice of 3.0 or 3.0! The older GQ did come in 4.2 but good ones are hard to find.

Hence grabbing the 4.8 when it came up. I can't afford it, it's expensive to buy and run, but I just had to have it!

Be interested to know roughly what a shortie Gu would sell for over there?

    Cheers

    Nick

diesel is around 1.35AUD, but petrol in the cheapest areas sits at around $1.50. whats the minimum octane you can get? its 95 isnt it? in that case you would be looking at about $1.60 average. but like i said the average weekly wage is probably comparable.

no idead what they actually sell for but i have seen people advertising them for as much as $50k not that i think it would sell for that but kinda gives you some idea hey!
