Mine is literally Velcroed to the dash. Nothing sticking out and handles the bumps and what not fine.
Probably not suited to everybody but works for me. Handy to just pull it off and use it in your hands also

Sorry no pics, but I use a RAM-B-201-A and a RAM-B-201-C. I have mine mounted where your reverse camera screen is. The tablet and holder comes out just in front of the dash vents, which allows me to turn the tablet towards me slightly so I can see it clearly. Doesn't block my vision out the windscreen that way.

hey Jono, obviously it's not fitted in there any more but in the photo, you can see a hump in the middle of the dash mat, above the vents. Well thats where my ram mount was mounted (screwed down using existing holes that the previous owner made). I had a 10in tablet and in no way did it obscure any view. I'm sure I had photos of it actually mounted but can't find any right now. But as Winnie said earlier, you can also get those ram clamp attachment which you can fit to the grab handle

Only illegal if it blocks the view (well QLD at least). With it there and 7" you easily still see a great amount of the bonnet.
Why do I use a tablet versus paper map? - my wife is the worlds worst navigator. This way I don't need to stop to check the maps, though I also use it to log the trip so can quickly pause/re-start and of course so the GPS receives a signal.
The A4A guys actually do have tablets in their rigs, they are more on the passenger side facing them as they have the 10" iPads that are too big to mount that close, along with a slue of other tech goodies including the Hema navigator, so they have multiple electronic Maps/GPS. That's how they show later where they've been/mapped the path they took etc.
Here you go, inside Simons Truck.

This might explain my situation better... that tablet/gps has oziexplorer on it and is not as good as mudmaps that i have on my ipad.

I don't mount my 10" tablet yet, but I've just bought a Ram Mount for my Garmin Nuvi 2597LME. I use the Garmin every time I drive the car, not for navigation as such, but as an accurate speedo. Since I've put BFG AT 285/75/R16 on, the car speedo is way out. As I have a 2010 GU, the Ram Mount will use the useless "cubby" at the tip of the centre of the dash. I had a Chinese 7" navigation system with reversing camera that used a suction mount. It was useless, it vibrated so much the unit fell out on a corrugated dirt road. I think the biggest problem with any of these devices is the reflection from the screen, but that's another story. Oh and this oldie loves technology....![]()
