I proposed to my wife on top of a rock formation, with a bottle of non-alcoholic wine.

We’d been living together for a year. Laying in bed I said “We’ve been living together for a year, might as well get married, whaddaya reckon”. Amazingly she said yes. That was 33 years ago & we love each other more now than we did back then.

    How about sky writing?

I thought about that too. Or a banner towed behind an aeroplane.

    Cheers for the comments guys.

At this point I should probably mention that I was married once before.......for 10yrs. I was only 20 at the time but after 12 yrs together she decided she wanted to live a different life. Sure both of us made mistakes but it didn't need to come to that & it taught me a few things. But yes at that age I was about as romantic as a dead stick. Sure I loved her but cars & mates took up too much of my time. We ended up having 2 beautiful children which I now have 50% custody of. But I always thought if I ever got a chance to do it again I'd do it better. My girlfriend isn't all about money & I know she doesn't expect anything. It's more me that wants to do it fancy. I've worked hard to get where I am so I can. I've got this thought in my head that I want to blow her away. She's already indicated she'd say yes if I asked her so that isn't a problem, not that it will make me less nervous lol. She doesn't want a fancy wedding but I do. I'm not worried about that though because I know the right people ie photographers, cake makers, florists, card makers, caterers, all types of car enthusiasts, etc. I don't know any jewelers or bridal folk though. I'm probably overthinking this at the moment.

I thought about taking her out on the boat fishing which could then involve a meal as our favorite restaurant is on the water & has a mooring dock. I could then do sky writing or the banner. So many options here hahaha

I think I'm going to offer to (insist on) get her ring cleaned & use that to propose. Once I choose a restaurant I'll speak to staff & see if I can get a copy of the cocktail menu, scan it & modify it to suit the purpose. We'll catch a taxi with the excuse that we can both drink & then from the restaurant I'll have a limo waiting which will take us to Kings Park & there I'll get down on one knee, say something nice & present her with her ring. On the way back to the limo I'll make sure she conveniently stumbles across an envelope with her name on it & inside will be the voucher for her to choose her ring. From there the limo can take us home or wherever we want to go next.

    I've had so many ideas.

She loves taking the motorbikes out. I have become reasonably good at getting ahead of her, darting off into the bush & hiding until she rides past & then I catch up & overtake her. I'd have to orchestrate this right so I don't cover her in dust or rocks but what if I did this but as I'm hiding I quickly tie a banner to myself that she will see as I overtake her?

I could rig the sun visor in her car or mine with the question on it but that leaves the timing of her finding it as unpredictable. There are so many ways. I think you get more brownie points if you come up with something original which is why I'm looking for ideas or things that will trigger ideas for me. I'm not actually looking to copy what someone else has done.

overly complicated and prone to disaster...............

I know from the sounds of it YOU want something special, but be guided by your missus - if she's not into much fuss - dont make it a fuss
go out for tea, ask her, and tell her you will be wanting to go ring shopping soon, dont give her a 20c ring or ANYthing,
just ask, and if she says yes - then plan together on a ring shopping day

I just asked my missus while watching TV

"what are you doing for the rest of your life, do you want to be with me.......?"
    she said yes
30yrs married in Nov, known her for 34 yrs.........

    Mate,

Like most here, I have been happily married for a very long time and we love each other more and more each day. Even after all these years, gazing on her still makes me weak at the knees and no one in the world can make me laugh like she does. My wife is also a strong personality and she asked me, which are some of things I love about her. I designed and had both her engagement and wedding rings made (a jeweller just off the Hay St mall), which was my way of "giving of myself" to her.

When we married, we didn't tell a soul. We're not into pavlova dresses and fretting about who sits where. We got married the day after my birthday and went down south for a week just soaking up the beautiful great southern of WA; giant trees, Margaret River, Albany etc.

Nowadays with our 22 year old son recently moved out (although rumour has it he may be back soon....) it's just going from strength to strength. I am the luckiest bloke in the world.

Probably doesn't help you but sometimes you don't need a big song and dance to communicate what you mean.
