Melb to Licola to Woods Point then home to Melb this friday/Sat

This Friday I am hoping to leave for Licola with the family.. now I was going to be towing a camper but Mags wants to stay in a motel so I have found a place in Licola (Not much to choose from) and have the trip there all planned out but as we are no longer camping my plan is to go from there to Woods Point..

I have not gone this way before and wanted to know if traveling by track this is doable in a day (including getting back to Melb) and are there any must do tracks.. I will be traveling on my own so dont want to go on tracks that are very hard.

I need this time out and getting the whole family along is something I have wanted to do since Dargo last year.

You can do it easily in a day, as you can take the Jameson-Licola Rd, South Rd, Mt Selma Rd, to Walhalla Rd to Matlock, and that is all 2wd stuff.....nice trip though and will take around 4 hours or so.

The other alternative if you want to do some nice 4 wheeling, would be to head out south from Licola to Burgoyne Gap Track through the Macallister River, up to Black Range Rd Track, and then head north up to McEvoys and then South Rd, where it would meet up at the junction of South Rd and Mt Selma Rd and travel as before ... this would take up a day. There are a million different tracks up that way, but Burgoyne Gap is beautiful, and a great drive too.

Most of the roads are winding up that way, so you can't escape them ... just have to travel a little slower to accommodate for the motion sickness.

We normally travel in from Rubicon across to Burgoynes in a day - but that is tracks all the way. I haven't travelled all of the road section I mentioned on the first post from McEvoys up to South Rd, but I think that part would be fairly easy, just as the other end of the road is.

There is Green Hills Track off Burgoynes heading up to South Rd, but this has a couple of pretty steep bits that you may not want to tackle solo - just in case, and I haven't been that way for quite a while so I can't really remember what it was like. Burgoynes Gap has enough steep stuff in and out to keep you amused anyway, and it takes you through some great camping spots in the Gap on the Macalister River. Nice River crossing too, so it has a bit for everyone.

There is a diversion off the road section onto McGuires Track - Mt Selma Track too, but I haven't been that way so I can't recommend it from first hand knowledge.

There's also a track opposite Burgones. Don't remember the name. Mt Margaret Tk is pretty good, but may have white stuff on it. Ask Ray or Mary at Licola shop what tracks are open. When does jamieson rd close ?

easy drive from Woods point is the one I mentioned above i think it follows the frenchman spur track., track starts down hill at Woods Point then turn left
plenty of heli pads for the kids to get out and run a muck , track comes out about Maryvilles so worth stopping and spending some $$$$ in there
Im sure the ppl would appreciate it, The whole track Id rate easy but muddy, no traffic so take all spares,
should be well sigh posted by now back when I did it tracks were a bit vauge, Highly recommend this track.
its in the top ten high country tracks to do. In most books
