Been too busy with everything else this weekend to do much. I have removed the surge tanks, no cracks, removed the hoses, no cracks, removed the radiator and filled it up and pressurised it, no leaks. No water was on the motor at all so I know its not anything on the motor. The motor went into a limp mode like state, I think its a safety thingo thats brought on when you loose coolant or temps get too high maybe to stop you from cooking it? I was able to drive it into the garage when it was off the tow truck and the limp mode state wasn't there.
I wash out the radiator fins and it was pretty dirty.
The cars is just sitting in pieces at the moment. It might be there for a day or two before I can touch it again though. I'm gonna replace all the hoses on the car while its apart...
The only thing I can think of where the coolant came from was where the lower hose is clamped onto the radiator. As this section basically points right to the wheel arch. The clamp used is one of those spring loaded clamps and I think these are used for a reason. If the system does pressurise, the clamp can let go and release the pressure. This way you don't bust a hose or split the radiator. Just grabbing at straws really. The reason it did it is, I think, the small pressure hose that goes from the radiator to the surge tank (which is under pressure also) might have been kinked or something and therefor the surge tank pressure cap couldn't release any excess pressure, so the radiator simply over pressurized until this clamp let go, let the excess water out and the clamp, tightened up again on the hose once the pressure was relieved. Like I said, just grabbing at straws. Everything checks out o.k otherwise.
When it happened, I was kinda hoping for the worst. Lol. Then this would have forced me to do the TD upgrade. Haven't really got the coin to do it but atleast it would make me start.
