    If its working then why worry about the sound? Your turbo isn't working as hard as before and the spool up was so erratic so this is probably the reason. As for the needle valve adjustment. Assuming it is plumbed in correctly, squeeze the hose after the needle valve on the Dawes side. Does the rod on the VNT move? If so, and the rod doesn't move when you adjust the needle valve, I would say that needle valve is no good. Those $5 needle valves rarely work anyhow. If you have a hose and fitting outlet nearby, they would have something better for sure. But check out what I asked first to be sure.
    Also, block the EGR, it will help even more with your turbo and engine performance, not to mention engine longevity.
