I wouldn't trust A filter won't stop water Regardless of sales pitch, if the breather just runs straight down there's only one way the waters going to go. I've had water above my bonnet and my scoop blowing water/ air out like a whale and I've had no issue with my breathers

I agree. I've mounted my filter upside down. Ran rear diff gearbox and transfer case off one line and the front off the second line.
Had a body lift in so made it a bit easier.
But I would most certainly do an auto box aswell

Awesome thread on breathers dudes... 'cept OP was asking about water getting in via the dipstick.

Dunno about the Patrol Auto Box but my 4L85 Dipstick has the over centre style latch on it so the top of the dipstick is sealed.

Are the Nissan boxes the same or is there a chance of water ingress?
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

I fitted some fuel filters, which point down as well. I joined them so there was less chance of creating suction.

Without getting off the couch I'm sure its got either a rubber bung or plastic with an o ring but I don't remember a surround that goes over it.

To answer your question 700mm of water is fine for the gu without any snorkel. Around the 800mm mark which I did recently I saw there was rivelets of water on the top couple of inches of the dipstick. Shouldn't be problem for a quick crossing but for longer ones or if you get stuck I would recommend a cover. For mine I put a ribbed condom with rubber bands to keep the water out. Hey If it is good for your dipstick why not for the patrol's. 😊
