Hi guys, is changing an alternator on a TD42 in a 89 Maverick a straightforward job?
Hi guys, is changing an alternator on a TD42 in a 89 Maverick a straightforward job?
Pretty much. Does your alternator have a vac pump on the back? Be sure to get an alternator the same. I did mine not long ago from memory some of the wires attached to the back of the alternator needed new ring terminals.
In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.

Yep its got the Vac pump on the back, I've already got the new one, got new oil lines as well for the Vacc pump, it looks easy, its the first think I've changed on the Mav, haven't had it long.
Easy as pie.
Something I need to do on mine soon too as I've got mud in the front bearing. I'm planning on keeping my old one and reco'ing for a spare if possible

Take your time even take photos first if in doubt,
put them next to each other and see if all the terminals are the same etc
Double check when its all together that the belt is correctly adjusted and all bolts are tight.
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there

Disconnect your batteries first.
The black wire is an earth, it needs to be connected back on the housing of the alternator. Not connected with the large white wire.
