    The new Project

So its been just over a year since my old trol killed itself and I have just picked uo a new Q to start over.

Its a 89 tb42 carby I picked it up for $1,800 with 380 on the clock. Its going to be a slow build but see how we go.

With the car I also got new sliding windows as they where rusted out and I have a reco motor ready to go in if this one breaks so for now just gonna sit on it and see how it turns out.

So far we have done plug, leads, gasket, new rear widows are in.

Waiting to go in is a set of 2" king springs need new front lughts that sre on the way and also the over flow bottle. Arb bar is just wsiting for new blickers so I can get a roady and start the rest.

Having some custom sliders and rear bar going to start making next week (got the plans from the team rino)

I have some rust that ill need to cut out and waiting on a color im thinking a nice gray for the re spray.

Ill try keep this updated with how its going and build pics

Any suggestions or ideas are welcomed as it will be my first build and only ener had rd or td so the motor is a mystery to me

Bargain price for a good looking Q. The petrol engines love to rev, and their torque is generated in the higher rev range. Being a carby it has stuff all to go wrong with it too. It is easy to slap on some extractors and a hi flow muffler.

Ok so I have hit a bit of a road block and not sure what I should do. Here my issue.

The engine in the car I need to replace the rings and eghust manifold so gaskets as well. I have a 2nd complete engine that I can put in. Now my drama is woild it to worth just dropping the new engine in I have been told it works but never saw it running its a year new then the car but no idea whay sorta km are on it or if everything is good in it. It would be a bolt in and out swap but run the risk of it not working what do you think I should do I have never done a engine swap so I would be looks for some help as well anyone give me ideas.

    Its it worth it?
Will it take long to do?
Should I just take the parts I need from the new engine?

So many questions no idea what to do

To tell if you need new rings, you need to do a compression test. IF the compression is down, then apply a drop of engine oil in the lower value cylinders. Immediately do another compression. If the compression rises significantly, then it is the rings. If it does not, then it is a valve, head gasket, head or cracked piston.

Without knowing what compression the 2nd engine has, it is a hard call to make. If it was mine, I would make a bracket to hold a starter motor, add some oil and do a compression test, before making a decision, but that's me.
