Trawling through a few posts and theres heaps of great advice so in the way of maintenance I should be changing the oil every 5000?
Never gone on sand everyone raves about it but coming from darwin not the most exciting thing to drive through and lack of so avoided it . But assuming I do go on sand best way to clean would be a sprinkler underneath then pot belly black spray any chips exposed metal? How do I know if it has any sand damage now? Its got 45000 on the clock (just bought and im oblivious) done lighy sand work.

Give it a good wash, let it dry. Park it on a vacant block around the corner or gravel carpark at the local footy ground and buy 2 spray cans of Fish Oil and go sick and spray the chassis and full drive train. Everything. Fish oil soaks into the pores of Steel and will eliminate Rust and provide a good deep barrier. Forget the Potbelly Black mate it would not even make my list.

If your set on Painting it then use a Body deadener or Bitumen type paint for the underside of the car. Fish Oil is my first choice though and it should be retreated every 1 to 2 years depending on the type of use of the car.

One extra comment. I did this as well but went over to Fraser about 2 weeks later and it had not dried properly and sand has stuck to fish oil and won't come off without removing fish oil as well. I will do it again when all sand has gone. Just make sure it is really dry before going to beach.
